Captains' Corner

Maria Hinen - College Captains

Hello Everyone

I hope you're doing well during this 6th lockdown.  We know how annoying it is coming in and out of lockdowns and the uncertainty that comes with it.  However you have all shown incredible resilience, perseverance and commitment and we are so proud of each and everyone of you.  Keep going, we are nearly there.

It has been an absolute pleasure leading you along with the Student Representative Council (SRC).  As many of you are already aware, we as a College have moved to a new leadership model.  The objective of this new SRC model has been to get a more genuine student voice, ensuring that each member of the college is involved in the decision-making process.  We as a community have achieved this by having SRC members across all houses and all year levels. So far, it has been great to work with the SRC members who are able to report to their houses and homerooms and provide us with valuable feedback that allows us to take this on and make our College a better environment for everyone.

During lockdowns, our SRC have been working with the leaders to create some activities to help us stay active and motivated while doing remote learning.  The SRC also help with school events throughout the year and work closely with their house leaders and captains to organise fundraisers for different initiatives. This lockdown they have produced a scavenger's hunt for homerooms to do in order to keep us engaged and connected.

                                                                                            Maria Hinen and Aiden Cachart

“Student Representative Council (SRC) is a group of students elected by your peers to represent all students within the school. SRC members work democratically to represent the student body in school decision-making and organise ways for students to participate in and enjoy school life.  Being a good representative means always keeping in touch with what students want, and sometimes it means standing up for decisions and negotiating them with students, teachers or the principal.”               Nate Micallef (Year 8 SRC, Leonis)

“I enjoy being on the SRC as I find it is engaging to hear the ideas people have and for those ideas to go from simply being words into actual events that happen at school. I thought the SRC planning for Founder's Day was a great example of how a group of people from year levels can collectively work together and make an idea a reality.”                                                           Kevin Williams (Year 12 SRC, Leonis)

“Being an SRC this year has been a privilege. It is a new experience that I feel has brought a lot of people together and made the people within each house more united and connected. Everyone’s ideas and opinions are heard and taken into consideration which means that everyone in the SRC plays a part in making their house a better place.  Whether it be discussing activities for events or improving on certain things within a house, it is a great experience to be able to talk to everyone and represent our houses’ interests.”                                                   Sharvin Narayanamurthi (Year 12 SRC, Phoenix)
