Middle School

From the Head of Middle School

Families of students in Years Seven and Nine will shortly receive the 2021 NAPLAN results. NAPLAN is a point in time series of tests that all student across Australia complete in Years Three, Five, Seven and Nine. Families can use the results to look at progress over time in literacy and numeracy.

The School does look at these results but we are aware that they are one part of testing and the tests do not suit all students. It is interesting to look at school results and reports alongside NAPLAN to see any similarities or differences. Occasionally we pick up student who have very high NAPLAN results but are only achieving at an average level at school. It also helps staff look at areas of numeracy or literacy that can be adjusted in the teaching year.

NAPLAN does have a slightly greater emphasis in Year Nine as it is the start of looking at achievement standards that lead to the WA Certificate of Education (WACE) and secondary graduation.

You will receive a flyer that explains more about the NAPLAN results when you get the results.

We are very proud of all our student results and the School will continue to work with students of all abilities to ensure they are successful learners.

Hospitality

Over the past couple of weeks our Year Nine Hospitality students worked on a design brief to produce a healthy pizza that included ingredients from each of the five food groups. The pizza base was high in fibre and the seasonal toppings were low in salt and fat. There were some very creative pizzas that looked and smelt delicious.  Our kitchen classroom smelt like an Italian pizzeria!
