Kingfisher Concert

The School is eagerly awaiting the Kingfisher Concert on Tuesday 14 September at the Albany Entertainment Centre. Tickets have been selling fast, but there are still some tickets available.  If you would like to enjoy a musical evening performed by GSG students, tickets can be purchased through the Perth Theatre Trust, HERE.

Newdegate Machinery Field Days

Last week Mrs Julia Bairstow, Community Relations Manager, and Mrs Tara Ball, Head of Middle Boarding, made the trip to the Newdegate Machinery Field Days. After the event's cancellation last year due to COVID it was the perfect opportunity to show the School's support of this important regional event. Julia and Tara enjoyed catching up with many past, present and future families.

On the Wednesday, after a very early start and a long bus drive, the Year Ten Contemporary Music students braved the blustery weather and delighted attendees with a wide range of musical performances. For a full report see Whole School News.

Technologies Showcase

Students, staff and community members attended a showcase of student work and visual presentations from technology classes across the School. The technology classes included Media, Digi Tech, Agriculture, Wood and Hospitality.  Guest speaker, Mr Terry Redman, highlighted the important role technology plays in the energy and agricultural sectors. Mr Redman encouraged our students to continue embracing technology to solve problems that arise in our daily lives and workplace.

The event also launched the second 'Grammar grown' wine - Kanup-Parill, the traditional name for the local fish caught by the Menang people. Year Eight student, Edie Hawke’s lino print of the fish was selected as the label artwork which was inspired by the 1840s artist Robert Neill. The wine itself has built on its first vintage with a tropically flavoured Sauvignon Blanc with a very balanced and clear finish.

Congratulations to technology teachers, Teresa McAllister, Katie Gunning, Julian Gugenheim, Peter Colgate and Kyal Rose on a wonderful evening. Also a huge thank you to Chef Nick, Chef Tyler and the very talented Year Twelve Cert II Hospitality students for preparing and serving the delicious food.

Politics and Law

Over the recent weeks, the School has welcomed the opportunity of engaging with state and federal politicians including Hon. Mia Davies MLA (Leader of the Opposition; Shadow Minister for Regional Development; Finance; Electoral Affairs; Federal-State Relations; Public Sector Management; Women’s Interest; Jobs & Trade), Ms Rebecca Stephens MLA (Acting Speaker) and Mr Rick Wilson MP (Chair of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works & Agriculture and Water Resources).  These significant members of our community have been able to speak with our Politics and Law students on a wide range of relevant issues. We appreciate that our politicians are very generous in giving of their time to visit GSG. Thank you to Head of Humanities and Social Sciences, Mrs Meredith Wright for arranging the visits.
