READING NIGHTS
Don’t forget to come and show Mrs Harvey when you have read for 25 nights to get yourself up on our reading wall of fame and get a sticker! When you have read for 50, 100, 150, 200, 250 and 300 nights you will get a photo taken with our giant balloons.
So far this term we have had 82 possible nights for reading. If you have read 80 nights by week 9 of Term 2 we will have a celebration!!!! Make sure you keep reading over the holidays if you need to catch up!!!
Remember for those of you who read and record 200 nights of reading this year you will receive a Somerville PS Golden Ticket. This ticket will give you access to a special ‘pizza party’ lunch in term 4. So don’t forget to keep up that reading and annoy your parents and carers so they sign your books to say you have read! We have a reading hall of fame in the foyer. How far can you climb on our wall?
To get to 200 you have to read for 50 nights each term. This includes any reading you do or being read to by your parents or you can even read to your teddies – JUST READ! It all counts so start recording your nights so you can come to our party.
WONDERFUL WORK
It is wonderful to see the terrific work going on around the school.
ENVIRONMENTALLY SAFE CUPS
It was great to find the grade ones in Environmental Science making paper mache cups out of recyclable materials. They were talking about what they can use these cups for such as planting a plant in them and putting them in the garden, using them as a holder but not for drinking water out of them! They used special glue that was environmentally friendly.
BULLY NO WAY WEEK!!!!
Make sure you ask your child about some of the activities they have done during Bully No Way Week! Here are some posters that the Grade 4 students have made to display around the school!
RACV ROAD SAFETY VISIT
How gorgeous to see our Foundation students riding their bikes and scooters around the basketball courts putting into practice the road safety rules they had learnt in their RACV visit.
SOMERVILLE STAR AWARDS
Congratulations to our super awesome Somerville Star Recipients this week. Well done for working hard and demonstrating our school values at all times!
MONSTER MAYHEM COLOUR RUN
What an awesome day it was for the students to enjoy the Monster Mayhem Colour Run. They had an absolute ball running around the track and you can see from the awesome photos that it was very enjoyable for all. Many thanks to Danni and Chantal for all of their work behind the scenes getting this organised and the helpers who helped on the day to make this possible for our students!!!
EASTER BONNET PARADE
Don’t forget to get your Easter Bonnet ready for the last day of term. We will be holding our Easter Bonnet Parade from 9.15 – 10.30 on the basketball courts and parents are welcome to attend. We always get some amazing creations but the kids just love being involved and wearing their bonnets!
MARINE AMBASSADORS
Last week our Marine Ambassadors Chloe, Aiden, Seth, Lily, Hailey and Cody took part in an excursion as part of their role in the I Sea I Care Marine Ambassador program for the Great Southern Reef. We travelled from Sorrento Pier to Chinaman’s Hut, a shipping marker used by local brown Fur Seals as a place to rest and play. We slid off the boat into very cold water to get up close to the beautiful animals. After warming up on the boat with some hot chocolate we hung on as the wind picked up and we travelled to Pope’s Eye, part of the Port Phillip Heads Marine National Park. We then got back in the water to snorkel with Weedy Seadragons at Point Nepean. An amazing first experience with this program, we are so excited to learn and teach others about marine protection throughout the year. A great story for the day was when the crew were telling us to make sure you take care of your belongings because things blow over the side and that yesterday on the boat someone lost $20 over the side. Well when we were walking off the pier at the end Chloe found the $20 in the weeds and went back into the water to get it! Awesome spotting Chloe! Thanks so much to Miss Dunstan for organising this for this wonderful crew- it was an awesome experience!
