Term 2

Visual Art 

The Term 1 Unit of Inquiry is called “Abstract Art”, which integrates with the Transdisciplinary theme- “How we express ourselves”. The Unit focuses on the Cubist and Futurists who looked at change in time and simplifying shape to present ideas in a new way. 

The Artists explored are Mondrian, Picasso, Matisse, Arp, Roger Kemp and Leonard French. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Students Participate in- 

Rotating still life drawing- Students move around to draw a display of mechanical objects, detailing the shapes formed with colour.  Inspired by the Cubist works of Picasso theyuse observational skills to capture the connection in the still life using line, shape, colour and tone. 

 

Ceramic relief sculptures- inspired by the works of Jean Arp. Applying the use of ceramic technique, looking at shape, form, balance and composition. 

 

The design and construction of an Abstract printing plate and the resulting prints. Inspired by the works of Roger Kemp and Leonard French, demonstrating design skills through exploring line, pattern and balance.    

 

 

 Japanese  

   

 

Term focus:

 

Basic greetings/classroom words, SETSUBUN(bean- throwing festival), Colours, Adjectives, Body language.

 

 

 

PYP Unit Of Inquiry - How we express ourselves; People Express Themselves Differently According To Environment And Audience. 

  

Students will be able to: 

  • Describe what they did over the holidays using an adjective OOLAYSHEE (happy). 
  • Spell their name in Katakana. 
  • Spell Japanese in the right order. 
  • Say and spell greeting/classroom words (DAIJOOBU, ME ZOO EE DES KA, etc) 
  • Tell why and how Japanese people celebrate SETSUBUN: bean- throwing festival. 
  • Tell what they wear and eat on the SETSUBUN day.   
  • Say the names of colour of the SETSUBUN masks. (Red, Blue, Green, Yellow) 
  • Say and spell adjectives to describe the SETSUBUN masks.(eg. KOWAI DES; It is scary) 
  • Tell when Japanese people use their body language. 
  • Compare and tell the differences between Japanese and Australian body language. 

  

Physical Education

'Who we are” and “How we Express Ourselves'

  

Students look at the concepts of Responsibility, Reflection and Communication 

  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • Working together as a group showing integrity and cooperation with others.     Demonstrating good communication skills with each other through-  
  • Team Building Activities- Parachute Games 
  • Throwing and Catching Strategy Games.   
  • Modified Cricket and T-Ball Activities.  
  • Refine the Fundamental Motor Skills of Throwing, Catching and Striking previously learnt, and perform these motor skills in various Cricket and T-Ball games and activities.  
  • Introduction of basic strategies.    

  

Responsibility- Children need to be aware of their responsibilities within the class and acting responsibly during activities with one another, within a team and with equipment at all times and understand why this is important for enhancement in learning. 

 

Library  

  

Year 3 students are encouraged to borrow books from the Library. The focus will be on reading for enjoyment, interest and information. The children will have the opportunity to consolidate their literacy skills and further their development in literature appreciation.

The Library program also supports and extends the units of inquiry being studied in each year level and provides classrooms with resources to enrich the units offering varied forms of information 

 

 Music Program 

 

PYP Unit Of Inquiry :  'Who  We Are;– Positive relationships contribute to a harmonious community.  

 

Focus: 

 

To study a range of diverse music from around the globe, including music compiled within the classroom. 

The Students Will: 

  • Create a class playlist to celebrate and explore the diverse musical genres within the classroom.  
  • Explore the playlist songs – expanding musical knowledge by identifying tempos, rhythms, dynamics and pitches within the songs.  
  • Bucket drumming to expand rhythm understanding. 
  • Work on singing technique, explore how different dynamics can change the mood of the song.  
  • Each week will have a different song to study to build up knowledge of musical elements and repertoire. Highlights include: Cover Me in Sunshine, You’ve Got A Friend In Me, This Is Me & Over The Rainbow. 
  • Explore music that emphasizes the PYP Unit Of Inquiry. This has included music from around the globe including Disney’s Encanto which the children have responded positively too. The music has Colombian styles of music embedded with various timbres and musical elements explored.  
  • Aligned with Wellbeing Week the students have explored the importance of being respectful to create a harmonious community and celebrating their unique traits and cultures. This has been mirrored in the music performed in class.
