Doctors in Secondary Schools Program:
Our Doctor has now officially started! Every Thursday they are onsite, working from the new portable building, located near E Block. There is a central booking system, so students make their own bookings through teams and compass.
About the Doctors in Secondary Schools Program:
- Students have access to confidential care that is a fundamental component of youth friendly care
- The Doctor complements a range of school-based health and wellbeing services and programs
- For adolescents, confidentiality has been shown to:
- Increase comfort
- Reduce anxiety
- Increase trust
- Increase the likelihood of future visits
- Important to acknowledge the desire of parents to be involved whilst maintaining trust in the confidentiality of the GP consultation
If any parent/carer has questions about the Doctors in Secondary School program, please contact Student Services Leader, Debbie Edwards on 8795 9400.
Artscape:
This term we had the privilege of Connections Art space from Dandenong offering our students a series of art workshops after school. The workshops varied from mixed media, painting, drawing, and so much more. Each Wednesday from 2.30pm onwards students were provided with materials and a facilitator to work through different art mediums and work collaboratively. Students will have the opportunity to continue with this free program in term 2.
Sporting change:
Sporting change is a FREE after school program that runs after school on a Tuesday from 3.30pm-5pm with the Springvale Monash legal service. Students have the opportunity to play a range of different sports like soccer, basketball, rugby, cricket and so much more. Students in years 8-10 participated and enjoyed all the activities we had to offer, including a visit from Melbourne city mission. Students still have the opportunity to participate in term 2, to collect a consent form please come to A1 and return to the school as soon as possible.
Rainbow Collective:
This term our rainbow collective group was back up and running! Students came along each Tuesday and used the space to either raise awareness for LGBQTIA+ issues, hang out with each other or teach the group new skills such as 3D art, drawing techniques or discuss rainbow rights and laws.
Breakfast Club:
Breakfast Club has a change in location! We are now running from A7/A8 (next to the Library), and we are loving it. Breakfast Club is now feeding over 100 students and staff a week, which is allowing our community to be better prepared for a day of learning.
To celebrate the end of term we served waffles and pancakes with lots of choices of toppings and it was a huge hit!
Breakfast Club runs every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:15am – 8:45am. We serve lots of delicious breakfast foods items, including cheese toasties, toast, fruit, muesli bars, cereal and so much more! We welcome all students and staff members to join us for the most important meal of the day.
Allied Health:
This year, we are delighted to have a Mental Health Social Worker, join our community through a partnership with the School Psychology Initiative. Our students have access to this service via a Mental Health Care Plan, which is available through Medicare. Please contact the Wellbeing Team if you would like to learn more.
Big W Donation:
This term Hampton park secondary was lucky enough to receive a generous donation from Fountain Gate Big W, these items included books, toiletries, snack items and stationary that we were able to distribute as required. We appreciate the support provided to our community through this donation and the joy it has brought into the lives
