Year 11/12 Boys State Rugby Champions!

By Kaiya Kaiwai – Rangikauhata & Eman Jonassen – Hammond

Leading up to the touch event ages from 7-12 we had high chances of winning through all ages, on day 1 29th of March 2022 arriving at Endeavour hills rugby club at 9am playing a few rounds. Not to long after our 9-10 girls were coming in 3rd followed by the 9-10s boys placing 4th and the senior boys coming in 5th. After our 45-minute lunch break and playing the last of the rounds we were lucky enough for the 9-10s girls to making top 4 but losing to Grange 3-1, unfortunately the 9-10 boys placed 5th just coming short from making the finals but the senior boys wining the last round of the event putting them 2nd securing a spot in the grand finale. During the grand final the game was very close. Both schools went back and forth scoring trys each set. The siren went and HPSC were up by 1, but Fountain Gate SC came up with an amazing play to take into a drop off. A drop off means the game goes into extra time (2 minutes) and each team drop from 6 players to 4 for the duration. In the drop, we were very confident with players and the skills we had just coming short the year before we knew that we had to give it our all to win this one. We started first and scored FG came back and scored as well. There was only 30 seconds left on the time and we managed to get to the try line within 3 touches. We did a play that drew in the defenders and left one of our players open to score the winning try on the buzzer!

This was an exceptional win from our Senior Boys, playing with respect for the game, integrity and a high level of skill and teamwork. We are so proud of your effort and commitment and on behalf of HPSC congratulations!!!!!

Thank you to all team members from the Rugby Academy who consistently came to training.

Year 7 Girls Volleyball Finalists!

Congratulations to our Year 7 Girls Volleyball team that represented the school sensationally and came in 2nd place! They’ll be sure to secure first next year – look out! Great effort girls! Thanks to Miss Prosser for coaching and taking the team out on the day!

Intermediate Tennis!

On Monday 21st March, the Boys and Girls Intermediate Tennis teams participated in the interschool district competition. Despite not having much experience in both teams, all students participated with enthusiasm and good sportsmanship.

The boys won a few games and progressively improved their match play and confidence throughout the day. The girls team won through to the next round by default as they were the only team that was able to field a full team, highlighting the importance of organisation and dedication to representing their school.

Some of the girls participated in some match play on the day and had a lot of fun. Well done to both teams!
