Mabo House Updates

Dear Mabo Students and families,

What a term it has been!

We have had 11 weeks of learning, building positive relationships and getting to know our new Year 7 Explore students.

The Mabo House had their first assembly where celebration of student achievement was our focus. It was a fantastic way to end the term and congratulations to all award recipients.

House pride has been a focus for us in Mabo, and to continue to strengthen our new House structure we have a few key House Events coming up:

  • Week 2 - Cross Country: Thursday 5th May
  • Week 3- House Mentor Session: Each house will choose a charity to align with!
  • Week 4 - Athletics Carnival: Thursday 19th May

The Senior VCAL students are also working on leading House events throughout the term for Personal Development Skills which we are very excited for and will post more details in Term 2. We encourage students to show their house pride and participate in as many House events as possible to help us win the overall cup. We have won the swimming carnival and currently we are the leaders of Learning Habit Reports (GPA scores) with an average score of 3.18!!!!

Other houses scored averages below:

Hollows: 3.14

Walton: 3.13

Freeman: 3.09

Mabo Mentor

The Year 9 Mabo 1 Mentor group worked together to create a Harmony Week display in Miss Newton’s Mentor classroom. Every single member the class contributed in some way to the display. Everyone assisted in cutting the pieces and creating their individualised person that represents them. Some students went above and beyond to be a part of the design team assembling the display on our wall. Special mention to our design team; Casey Lumm, Antonio Barachina-Smith, Arooj Qalandari, Jvinson Hach and Sean Carter. The final result is bright and welcoming and a sensational reminder that we all belong in our classroom and treat each other with respect. 9 Mabo 1 is so proud of our display!
