Visual Art

What is happening in the Art Room....

Our Foundation students are learning about primary colours and how you can mix them to make secondary colours. They are experimenting with different painting tools like rollers, brushes and foam pads to create 'colour books'. The students especially liked using the rollers.

Grade 1 and 2 students have been practising drawing patterns and learning about symmetry in art. They used their knowledge to draw and decorate Greek and Roman inspired vases.  Folding your paper in half and drawing half a vase on one side of the paper, will give you a symmetrical vase when you cut it out and fold it open.

Pop art by Keith Haring is what has been keeping the Grade 3 and 4 students engaged these two weeks. They explored the artist and his work and studied his particular style before they commenced work on their own Keith Haring inspired art.  Many students have noticed his art displayed on clothes and stationary in several shops at the moment.

The Grade 5 and 6 students continue to work on their statues, they discovered that it's not easy to get a stocking over a shaped metal coat-hanger without it sagging or getting a hole in it. Spreading glue all over it is much easier albeit very messy and sticky.
