Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships at CHPS

Resilience, Rights, and Respectful Relationships at Clifton Hill Primary School

Clifton Hill Primary School continues to support children’s Health and Wellbeing through (amongst other things) the explicit teaching of the eight topics from the  Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships program.

These eight topics include:

  • Emotional Literacy
  • Personal Strengths
  • Positive Coping
  • Problem Solving
  • Stress Management
  • Help Seeking
  • Gender and Identity
  • Positive Gender Relations

Each month we will offer an insight into lessons from the program that your child/children may be involved in. Here we look at:

Topic 4 – Problem Solving

(You may be able to use or discuss aspects of these lessons at home.)

AIMS

Activities within this topic area will assist students to:

  • Recognise there are many ways to solve conflict
  • Describe similarities and differences in points of view between themselves and people in their communities
  • Identify cooperative behaviours in a range of group activities
  • Practise individual and group decision-making
  • Practise solving simple interpersonal problems.

Research shows that It is important to help students learn a range of problem-solving skills through applied learning tasks so they are able to cope with the challenges they will face in the future. Problem solving is identified by the World Health Organisation as a key skill for health. To be able to solve problems, children need to be able to think critically and evaluate the consequences of various actions.
