Young Saints Swimming for Gold

Alice Springs swimmers have returned from the "2022 Northern Territory Open & Aged Championships" after some sizzling results in the pool. 

 

Competing against teams from Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and Top End Territory clubs, swimmers concluded a busy four days in the pool with 35 medals: 9 gold, 16 silver and 10 bronze and a PB rate of 77%.

 

Ruby Bell won 7 medals: 1 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze and her most exciting swim was bringing home the gold in the 100 backstroke 1:26.77sec. To top off a great meet, Ruby smashed her times in the 200IM 4.52 sec and 200 freestyle by over 8 seconds and made three open finals.

 

Chelsea Brodie fought hard all weekend with her commitment to training paying off, and won 1 silver and 4 bronze medals. Chelsea had some massive PBs including over 12 seconds in her 200 freestyle. Chelsea had a remarkable swim in the junior 50 backstroke final 39.31, breaking 40 seconds for the first time.

 

Lilly Bloomer won 7 medals: 2 gold, 4 silver and a bronze and qualified for 9 open finals, an exceptional feat. Her highlight was a scintillating swim in the open 50 freestyle final, where Lilly swam a fast 29.77 sec breaking the 30-second barrier. Lilly won gold in the 50 breaststroke 37.06 and 50 backstroke 34.89 and is showing promise in the 200 IM.

 

Ben Bloomer competing in the 13&O age group for the first time, showed grit and determination in all his swims. A breaststroke specialist, Ben has been branching out into freestyle and swam an amazing 100 freestyle 1:11.53 an improvement of 3.60 sec. Ben finished 4th in both the 50 and 100 breaststroke races, just missing medals.

 

Daniel Rando won silver in the 50 and 100 backstroke and 50 fly and took on the older swimmers in five open finals. The high point of Daniel’s meet was a terrific 2nd place in the 50 backstroke 33.02 knocking 3.47 sec off his time. Daniel also kicked home strongly in the 100 backstroke and 200 freestyle finishing with PBs of over 9 seconds in each.

Lilly Bloomer from Alice Springs Swimming Club was selected asSwimming NT’s ambassador for the 2022 NT Open & Age Championships. Lilly is a role model for all swimmers across the NT and has most recently represented the NT as Captain of our 2021 State Team.
