Swimming Sports 2022
Wow, what a fantastic day the Wedderburn College Swimming Sports were. By 9:30am there was already a sea of yellow & blue with all students enthusiastically dressed in their house colours. The staff were very proudly wearing their new 'house' uniforms with the school's focus of 'be an upstander' printed on the back. Some staff were a little more outrageous with their commitment to the dress up, with a few tutus and even a chicken onesie on parade!
The participation levels seemed to be at an all time high, with only a small number of absences from the entire Foundation to VCE classes and healthy numbers in all events. If students weren't racing or cheering, they were participating in one of the four dance offs to Time Warp, Nutbush, Macarena and YMCA. Even some parents found themselves coaxed onto the makeshift dancefloor.
In the water, students naturally reflected the perfect blend of 'doing your best' and 'no one gets left behind', as those who had completed the race swam back and brought home those who were less confident with the stroke. Whilst competitive swimming wasn't every student's strength, getting in and having a go certainly was and the college was undoubtedly incredibly proud of all students who participated.
A lunchtime break was well earned, with all attendees treated to an A class sausage sizzle, thanks to Allan and Kylie.
The day finished with a staff vs students’ race. The Ansett students taking out first place. Ansett staff were close contenders, but a slow first leg from Mr Lockhart had a significant impact on their final time. The wins didn't stop there for Ansett, taking out the Swimming Sports shield with the highest points ratio, after an incredibly close competition. Senior Sports Captains, Neve & Zen, along with Alexis and Nevaeh, proudly accepted the Shield, thanking all organisers and attendees.
Being such a well attended event by the general community, the 2022 Wedderburn College Swimming Sports have really set the tone for what will be another fantastic year at the school. The 3rd of May 2022 is booked in for the Cross Country, another great day to be had.
