Foundation & 1

The Swimming Sports last Friday was enjoyed by all. Although we didn’t venture into the ‘big’ pool we had our own special events. Collecting ping-pong balls, filling-the-bucket-with-water relays and collecting counters off the floor, were some of the highlights. Our counting skills were put to the test when the judges counted the items. I think they should come into our class for Maths! We are learning lots about counting and some efficient ways. We have started investigating teen numbers and the importance of ten in our base ten system. We even discovered in some countries they say fourteen as one ten and four!

Reminders- Grade One Library day is Wednesday. Foundation Library day is Friday.

Mrs Tanya Chalmers, Teacher

Year 3 & 4

We have had a great start to the year so far in Grade 3/4. Many of the students have been doing an amazing job with their reading at home throughout the week, with a few reading every single night! We have been talking about fiction and non-fiction books and students are encouraged to read books from both of these genres to increase their vocabulary when reading. A reminder that our Library day is on Thursdays and all students are encouraged to bring a library bag so they can borrow books for their enjoyment.

This Friday the 25th of February the students will have their last swimming session in P.E. They will need to bring all of their swimming attire for this.

Year 5/6A

The class celebrated ‘Twosday’ with a range of fun activities inside and outside the classroom to recognise the interesting combination of numbers that were 22/2/22. The students enjoyed spotting 22 2’s outside in the yard, thinking about 22 nouns, 22 verbs and 22 adjectives. We wrote about what life would be like when we ourselves are 22.

We have been engaged in our PE lessons as we have visited the pool to practice our swimming skills and participated well in the House Swimming Sports.

For Maths, we have combined the 5/6 classes which have then been separated into three zoned groups. Together we are focusing on Place Value and showing that we can represent numerals both large and small in a number of different ways.

For Reading, we are enjoying learning about The Wild Robot novel and hearing how Roz the Robot is interacting with the other animals on the island.

Our Dreamtime Narrative Writing skills are improving as we plan, draft and edit our writing and continue to improve our stories along the way.

Year 5/6B

The Grade 5/6B students have made a fantastic start to the school year and are continuing to build momentum with their learning.

In class, we are working on establishing a Smart Spelling weekly routine. Next week, students will have their spelling words to practice at home as well as a few maths questions. It is expected that students will complete a small amount of homework each week to consolidate their learning.

The Grade 6 students look very cool in their Grade 6 school top. Thank you to Mr Forrest for providing this point of difference to the Grade 6 class of 2022.

Have a great week.

Year 12 Camp

On Wednesday the 9th of February, the Year 12s set off to their last camp ever. We ventured off at 9am in the bus and school car, fully packed with everyone’s oversized bags. The two-and-a-half-hour bus ride consisted of loud music, funny conversations, and lots of laughs. It was a lot more sedate in the car where Mr Gretgrix was lucky to be travelling with the quiet students!

Our first stop was to pick up Janice from Marong.  It was great to include her in this trip, but some got more joy in getting a coffee and pie at 9:40am from the Marong Store.

Once we got to Geelong, we had some awesome lunches (McDonald’s for most) and headed back on the road to get to the Ocean Grove Holiday Park – our home away from home for the next two nights.

We settled into our cabins and did our first ‘Big Question’. We then planned our MasterChef dinner. Each cabin had to design and make a 3-course meal, that would be judged by Mr Forrest. We need to quote Mr G “this was the best Year 12 MasterChef competition I have ever seen.” Winners were Aliza, Olivia, and Chelsea with healthy Pesto Pasta, and Lahni, Emily, Sam and Ayla with delicious Burgers. We can quote Mr Forrest. “Burgers are better at Lahni, Emily, Sam and Ayla’s Cabin.”

We finished the night by driving to Barwon Heads and going for a sunset walk. We then headed back to the cabins for Big Question #2 – this time it was the teacher’s turn.

Day 2, we got up at a crazy hour of 6:00am and got ready for our first sunrise walk of the camp. After, we then got ready for the fun day ahead. Off we went to Anglesea to go Stand Up Paddle Boarding, which was so much fun. Mr Lockhart would be proud as everyone PARTICIPATED.

The fight started when Lahni drifted over near Olivia’s board and Olivia pushed Lahni’s board away and Lahni fell off.  From here is when everyone tried to get everyone in the water. Mr G and Zac were the only ones who stayed dry. It was great to see the resilience of Jake and Janice, who were both determined not to be beaten.  And we witnessed Crystal doing the most amount of figure 8’s on the water.

Eventually the fun ended, and after our picnic lunch we got on the bus and headed to Torquay to do some shopping at the factory outlets. Once we were sick of shopping, we then went to the Torquay Ice Cream Parlour and indulged. (Thanks Mr Forrest).

We then had some free time back at the campsite on Ocean Grove heading off to Queenscliff for fish and chips on the beach, or should we say chips and seagulls. We went to the rip water at Queenscliff and Port Lonsdale, where Mrs Woodman wanted to give us a history and geography lesson all in one.

Day 3, we got up again at 6:00am to go for our morning walk. It was the last day in Ocean Grove, so we took in the serenity. We got back to camp and started to pack up our things for the long trip back to school. On our way home, we stopped at Geelong Westfield Shopping Centre and wasted some money. Once everyone was shopped out, we got back in the bus and car and ventured off, getting lost in Daylesford again.

The Year 12s would like to thank Mrs Woodman, Mr G, Mr Forrest, Mr Lockhart and Janice for helping make our camp enjoyable as it was.
