Harmony Day on Tuesday 29th of March (week9)
West Beach Primary School will be celebrating Harmony Day on Tuesday 29th of March (week9).
Our school community will be acknowledging and learning about Australia’s many cultures and celebrating the wide range of cultural diversity within our community. We will be focussing on inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.
Our School Leaders had the privilege of interviewing some of the parents in our school community who have migrated to Australia. The students found their personal stories about migration interesting and they empathised with the parents when they spoke about leaving their families behind and their childhood memories. They were also impressed to hear stories of hope, gratitude and optimism about starting and building their new life with their family in Australia.
Thank you to Jack, Sara, Sarika, Dianna, Allison and Kath for sharing their personal stories. These videos will be shared with all classes who will be engaging in activities throughout the day with a whole class focus.
We encourage students to choose clothing from their own or another culture, or wear their school uniform with a splash of orange, or dress in orange from head to toe. Orange represents Harmony Day; traditionally, orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect. Harmony Day is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background.
We look forward to celebrating with our students and sharing some photos in our week 10 Newsletter.
Thank you.
Student Leaders and Mrs Mouzakitis.
