BARISTA AND HOSPITALITY TRAINING

Year 10 Small Business students completed one of Barista training or Hospitality Skills certificates in an effort to upskill them in coffee making and food handling. The students will be taking care of the business practices of the VCAFE this year under the helping eye of Mel Piper. The group running the course were very happy with the behaviour of the students and Ike Green even stayed back an extra hour and a half to clean up! Hopefully this will lead to better coffees in the VCAFE and more consistent opening times. From next week, the VCAFE will be open for business on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.

WORK PLACEMENTS

The hardest part of VCAL for students is finding a work placement that they can undertake one day each week. If you know of any people in our local community who would be willing to take on a school-age student for developing their employability skills, please get in touch with one of the VCAL team.

The work placement days are:

Year 10 – Friday

Year 11 – Tuesday

Year 12 – Thursday

SURF'S UP!

VCAL students hit the surf at Phillip Island this week as part of their Work Related Skills program. It was a bit chilly but they enjoyed a great day out. Thanks to Mr Burrows and Mr Boulter for making it all possible.

PLUMBING OPPORTUNITIES

The VCAL team have identified the importance of School Based Apprenticeships (& Training) over the last few years and even have a Parks and Gardens SBAT running from the school. We have been working on an exciting development involving plumbing recently. Chisholm are helping develop a program that will train young apprentices one day a week for an SBAT that they will complete with an employer supplied by Swan Plumbing. They are currently putting the call out for Plumbers who may want students for either ongoing work placements or early apprentices (two days a week). If you know someone, please put forward the information below or get them to call the VCAL team (9789 4544).

KHPS CHILLOUT SPACE

Year 12 students are currently transforming the space below at Karingal Heights Primary School into a new and updated “Chill Out” space for primary school students to use. Our students have made some design plans and have big ideas about what they can do, but are a bit hamstrung by costs! If you know of cheap/free timber, paint, tyres or other supplies, please get in contact with the VCAL team. We appreciate every bit of help!

VCAFE LOGO

The Year 10 Small Business VET are running a competition to design the logo for the VCAFE. The winning designs will be voted on by all visitors on Open Night and the most voted for logo will be used in the Café. If you would like to design your own logo, please do so and drop it off at the office by Friday 2nd March. Mrs Piper and the Year 10 team will organise the rest.

Love and Learning,
