High Achievers Assembly
On Wednesday morning our College held an assembly to celebrate the achievements of our High Achievers in the 2016 HSC. It was a wonderful opportunity to honour these fine young men and women, acknowledge their efforts and dedication and celebrate their success as a community. Last year’s HSC results highlighted the depth and the breadth of HSC success at the College; across students and Key Learning Areas.
Firstly we acknowledged our Distinguished Achievers. These are students who achieved a Band 6 in one or more subjects. Two of our students achieved Band 6s across five subjects which is an amazing achievement and is a testament to talent and dedication of Daniel Dunne and Emma Zanotto. This put these students on the NSW All Rounders Achievers List.
Secondly, we celebrated the seven students who received an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) of over 90. This places students in the top 10 percent of all students sitting the HSC in New South Wales. It is a prestigious accomplishment and we are very proud of the following students:
- Daniel Dunne our Dux of 2016
- Emma Zanotto
- Karl Panarello
- Andrew Seton
- Grace Ryan
- Sophie Woodbridge
- Daniela Vico
Each of these students shared aspects of their HSC journey at the assembly. We are grateful for the wisdom, advice and encouragement they imparted to the current Marian students. In a way they are passing the torch of HSC success on to future years.
Important Parent Meeting for Year 9
Next Wednesday 8th February at 7pm in the Hall, we will be holding an important information session for Year 9 parents about the changes to the HSC that will affect Year 9 students in 2020. The focus of the meeting will be to explain:
- The need to demonstrate a minimum standard of literacy and numeracy to be eligible for the HSC
- Opportunities students will have to demonstrate this minimum standard
- What we are doing now to help your child meet the minimum literacy and numeracy standard.
After the meeting, staff will be available to answer any questions teachers or students may have after the laptop distribution session. If you are unable to attend this meeting, please do not hesitate to contact me.
