From the Principal

Thank you to our parents, carers and students for a very successful start to 2020.  Our students have embraced the many opportunities provided to them - some of the highlights include:

  • The Swimming Carnival was a wonderful Whole School event.
  • Many students represented the college in a number of interschool team sports.
  • Our variety of lunch time and after school clubs and activities continue to grow -  Rainbow Retreat, Anime Club, French Club, Robotics Club, Book Club, numerous activities in the library, Engineering, Instrumental music ensembles, various Year 12 subject study groups and sports.
  • Elevate Educate have presented a workshop to Year 7 students on Time Management and a workshop to Year 9 students on Study Skills.
  • Rehearsals have begun for this year’s production, Freaky Friday.
  • The Year 7 information evening was a fantastic opportunity to welcome our Year 7 parents, many of whom are new to our college community.

Our students welcomed Japanese Consul-General Matsunaga, Ms Christine Busby (known as 'K Cosplay’) and Ms Emeralking from La Trobe University.  Ms Christine Busby is a cosplayer who was part of the winning team (Australian team) at the World Cosplay Championship 2019 held in Japan. It’s also worth noting that her team is the first Australian team to win the Championship! She also has experience as a Japanese-English translator, and was also working at Madman Entertainment where she worked on Japanese anime and films. Aside from Cosplay, Ms Busby is also passionate about sharing her experience learning Japanese in order to encourage young students to continue learning Japanese. Students really enjoyed listening to their talks.

We will soon be celebrating International Women’s Day, Cultural Diversity Week, Harmony Day and Francophonie Day.

School Council Elections

I am delighted to announce our School Council for 2020 so far.

Parent members: Johnathan Lock, Kristen Kearns and Nathan Horrigan  joining Kristen Skinner and Nicole Harris

Staff representatives are: Jenny Sanchez and Clinton Chiumello joining Aaron Petersen and Gabrielle Darvell.

I thank all those retiring councillors for their superb work over the past year(s): Ruth Gordon, Julie Staunton, Ashleigh Harris and Sean Kelly. All of the work of our councillors is greatly valued.

We are currently conducting a ballot for our students.

We are always looking for ways to involve our parents in our community. Please contact me if you have ideas of how you would like to be involved. Our Parents and Friends group is an excellent way to meet other families and I encourage you to join.
