From the School Captains

Chloe Guss – College Captain

Hi all my name’s Chloe Guss and I am so thrilled to be Glen Eira College's 2020 school captain, with an aim to bring students together to build more of community within your school.

I’ve had my fair share of musicals at GEC as well as stage directing Little Shop of Horrors in Year 10, which gave me the chance to meet and become friends with students in year levels other than my own. From Year 7 to Year 12 I always got involved in the inter school sporting events as well as playing basketball with a league outside of school. I have had other leadership opportunities around the school such as being elected Vice Junior school captain and Sapphire house captain.

From these leadership positions, participating in team sports and being involved in school musicals all have helped contribute to the leader I have become today. The gratification I receive after helping others is indescribable and the fact that I have received this opportunity to lead GEC into its best year yet makes me feel excited and honoured.

I want to strive to be someone all students feel comfortable and approachable around, because this year I will do in all my power to try to make the impossible possible and make your ideas happen. So please whether it's messaging me after school, or approaching me in the hallways tell me what you want to change or adapt in the school and I will make it a priority to see it through.

I want to help this school grow, grow more than it already has, just as it helped me grow from a shy 12 year old girl, into a confident leader. To create change, growth and flourish I need your ideas because the more ideas the more change we can make together.

Noah Loven – College Captain

Hi, My name is Noah Loven and it is my honour to be Glen Eira College school captain for 2020.

I have been in many leadership positions prior to obtaining this position. I am the president of BBYO (Bnei Brith Youth Organisation), a Jewish Youth Movement aspiring to involve more Jewish teens in more meaningful Jewish experiences with a particular focus on Jewish students who go to public schools as well as working with UJEB (United Jewish Education Board) which ensure individuals have a positive and proud Jewish identity which is vital for our community’s future.

I am also grateful to the school for providing me with a nurturing environment. The staff, past and present, have made me strive for excellence. Furthermore, Glen Eira College has helped me develop the qualities and skills needed to be an effective leader.

Our school has a diverse student population, with students coming from many different cultures and countries. In a world that is becoming more politically and socially divisive, we need to promote greater co-existence and tolerance. It is my obligation to encourage dialogue between students and help us to build a better understanding of each other, ultimately leading to a more tolerant and welcoming school environment.

I look forward to working with the different stakeholders of the school to ensure a successful and productive year ahead.

Bridie Skinner – College Vice Captain

My name is Bridie Skinner. I am honoured and excited to be selected as one of the school leaders for 2020.

I have always acknowledged that at GEC, we are encouraged and taught that hard work can lead to achievement and success and this has helped motivate me in the last 5 years. However, school for me isn't just about the grades or the final score at the end of Year 12, but the social connections that are made and can remain for a lifetime. In the role of one of Glen Eira College’s school vice captains, I will aim to align my actions with some important values I stand by. These are compassion, hard work, respect, commitment and the importance of being open minded. While abiding by these virtues, I hope to encourage an enjoyable year of schooling for everyone at GEC.

This year, I will aim to give back to our school and help us celebrate and recognise who we all are as individuals but also celebrate who we will be as a big group, together in 2020.

Sophie Rowsell – College Vice Captain

My name is Sophie Rowsell, and I am lucky enough to be one of Glen Eira’s vice captains. Throughout the past six years at Glen Eira, I have been able to connect with others across all year levels, particularly through engaging in the performing arts. Each year I have participated in the school musical and engaged in school clubs, such as the acapella group. From 2015-2018 I represented Glen Eira College in the Victorian State School Spectacular, first through being involved in the VSSS Choir, then later as a specialty act.

As a vice captain, I will continue to motivate others to get involved in the school community and promote a strong sense of belonging and pride at Glen Eira College. I hope to build a positive and inclusive space where we feel confident to share our ideas and also inspire and encourage each other to work hard. I am so grateful for this opportunity to represent the school and am looking forward to the opportunities it will present.
