School Captains Graduation Speech

By Charlotte and Ethan

Good evening and welcome to our Year 6 Graduation Mass. Thank you for joining us here this evening, Thank you to Father Hugh and Our Lady of Mount Carmel for allowing us to be part of your congregation and to celebrate our Year 6 Graduation. We have received many of the sacraments here with our recent sacrament being Confirmation. Tonight we are gathered here to remember all our good times together.

In Prep we started off as little fish in a big pond. When we entered the grounds of our primary school  we realised that this, Galilee was where we were going to spend the next 7 years of our life. During Prep we learnt that primary school is very different to kindergarten. You can't just play around and have fun, you also have to work hard and get things done. In Prep I felt like most things just went in one ear and out the other but that's okay because the things that we did learn stuck with us for the rest of our primary years.

From that I made my friends. Most I still have today. They have supported me and been half the reason that I've wanted to come to school even on a bad day. One of my favorite things about school has actually been just enjoying the time that I have with my friends and peers. We all had to work hard and try our best to make it through all the years, have fun to having a laugh. We had fun as a year level but there are always bad days . These  are the days that you need to keep trying, working hard and giving everything your best shot.

As Year One rolled in we were excited  because we had made it to the high rise. We had already learnt that school was an amazing place with our friends. There was a lot to learn. Year Two was exciting because our siblings started Prep, Keira & Matilda. From there everything went so fast that we could barely keep up with all the learning that was fitted into one year.

Year Three and Four flew by. We learnt so much as we were getting towards the end of our school years. The action packed years were filled with tons of projects and many other tasks. In Year Three we were all so excited for our first camp at Anglesea. It helped us all to bond and become more independent. Year Four flew by,  sooo much learning to do.

Year Five we were beginning to feel like leaders as we became the seniors of the school. Also in Year 5 we went all the way to Canberra for camp. In  Canberra we went on adventures everywhere from The Australian War Memorial to Parliament House as well as Telstra Tower. Towards the end of Year 5, all we were working hard and getting our school captain speeches  and applications done. The experience that we had at Canberra was amazing, we learnt more about parliament and made other amazing things.

That is how we ended up here speaking in front of you all at the very end of the school year. We have enjoyed every second of it from when we were the little fish to being the biggest fish in the little pond.

Being School Captain has been so much fun and  it has taught me everything from standing tall, public speaking to leading a group of students as well as being confident and making sure that everyone has a say. One thing that I have realised about Year Six it that you have to be able to have a laugh not only at others, but also at yourself.

Some people ask what Year Six is going to be like. I was thinking and Year Six is is a lot like a game of dodge ball. You might get some things thrown at you but that's okay,  if you work hard and give it your best you will make it through, hopefully be winning and not getting hit by any flying objects.

There are sometimes when you're really in the game and your team is doing really well. These are just like all the highlights that you get to experience in Year Six such as daily projects, challenges and many Year Six traditions.

I started off at Term one kind of surprised, because it hit me that it was the start of my last year at Galilee. I feel like the year went sooo fast that i could barely just stop and enjoy. Somehow I still managed to find time for homework. I'm now here at the very end and there is less than a week left

before the end of Year Six. The end of a year that i felt like i had just started.

Now I am one of the big fish in the pond soon to be little again.

To finish. I would like to thank all my teachers across the years from Mrs Petrarca to  Mr Coaley my teacher now. You are the ones that have helped me all throughout my school years and supported me not to mention the other staff that have been there for me like Miss Hart and Miss Templeten who was a student teacher here at Galilee. I would especially like to thank Mr Coaley for a wonderful year this year and for the amazing time I have had in Year Six. I would also like to give a special thanks to Mr Tobin for encouraging my love of sport, one of my favourite things to do. I have formed many relationships that I think will last a lifetime. So I would like to thank all my friends and classmates for supporting me and getting to the finish. Last but not least I would like to thank my parents for all the bad days that they have made better and all the not so good times that they have made amazing. All the amazing advice and help that you have given me for the last seven years. Just remember “ the moment you're ready to quit is usually the moment before a miracle happens”.

I would like to thank the amazing teachers I have had over the past 7 years at Galilee. Each of you have given me lessons that I will take with me on my schooling journey ahead.

From Mrs Petrarca being my first school teacher to Mrs Price working with me in reading recovery, being taught by the amazing Mr Tobin. A former Olympian Miss Otte as a role model. Ms Giles quietly moulding Charlotte and I as leaders and Miss Hart working with me as a kid in Grade Two, to a leader that I hope you are proud of in Year Six. There are so many people to thank,  Mrs Orr has nurtured my love of art and encouraged my creativity. Mr Martello has broadened my international vocabulary and my computer skills.

A special thank you to  Mr Maltese and Mr Campisano who are missed. Thank you to Tegan for encouraging my reading and to Wendy for everything you do, most importantly you are always there with a happy smile and positive words to say. Thank you to Pauline and Rosa for your great help, your roles are so important. Thank you Mrs Burns and Mrs Ford for your guidance with faith, Mrs Gerecke and also to Mr Miller for all the support that you have given me.

Please join me with a round of applause for the teachers and helpers.

And last however most importantly, you our awesome parents, carers and families who have supported all of us throughout our primary journey.

I’m certain that we could not have done it without you. I hope we have made you proud.

Please join me with a round of applause for parents and last but not least one for us.

Whilst writing this speech Charlotte and I really wanted to get it done so that we could go and jump on the trampoline. So even though we started out as little kids and have become responsible young people, we are still just kids who want to explore the world and learn new things. We want to thank Galilee for playing a huge role in getting us this far in our adventure!

We have had a blast this year and it is awesome that we got the opportunity to be your School Captains this year. We wish the future School Captains all the best and we hope they do the best.

Thank you

Girls State Rugby

On Thursday the 23rd, the rugby tackle girls went to states. We were so hot and that was just when we arrived! We met Holly, our trainer and all the other organisers of the day. We setup our tarp and started doing some pre-game training. We did some passing, wrestling and tackling. Holly called all the teams to pitch 2 and made sure everyone was there. With only a few late teams we were ready to play.

Then before we knew it our first game began. It was against Mudura. The other team won a game of paper, scissors, rock and decided to receive the ball. After a few good tackles, we had the ball. Claudia received it, dodged a few players and scored a try. Then when everything was going well, a girl sling-tackled Charlotte to ground, and ripped her shorts! But we were still winning. We got a point  then they got a point and so on. The game ended in a draw, 4-4.

The second match started with Amelia, Saskia and Sabrina on the sidelines. Then Claudia played another game of paper, scissors, rock. Luckily we won, and chose to receive the ball, but the other team got the ball after a turnover. It was 2-0 to the other team until Claudia intercepted the ball and scored a try. A few more tries were scored and the game finished 5-2 to the other team. We were disappointed but not discouraged as there was still one more game to go and if we won it, we might have made it into the semi-finals.

Then the last game commenced, we were all tired but we still tried our best. Everyone was cheering us on from the the sideline cheering “Go Galilee!” In the last few minutes of the game we were determined to get the try that might put us in the finals, but sadly we we did not get the it. In the end we drew with the other team.

It was finally the end of the day, we all tried our very best and got this far. It was an amazing day filled with excitement and tiredness. We would like to give a special thanks to Mr. Tobin who prepared and organised us for the day, Holly and Treena for training us, Denise and Ursula for supporting from the sidelines and Claudia, Amelia, Chrisoula, Rosie, Jackie, Lola, Saskia, Ella, Jeslyn, Charlotte, Lily, Sabrina and Sophie for all trying their hardest on the day, and all contributing their skills to the team.
