Remembrance Day

On Friday 11th of November, a whole-school ceremony was conducted in the gymnasium to commemorate members of the Australian Defence Force, who have served and died in the line of duty. Wreaths were laid and students listened to, ‘The Ode’ and ‘The Last Post’ followed by a one-minute silence to pay our respects. Students shared war poems and listened to a guest speaker from the Point Cook RAAF base. The students then had the opportunity to discuss the significant roles that service men and women of our nation had during the war and in our present day. After the assembly, wreaths were donated to the War Memorial Shine in Williamstown and the Point Cook RAAF base on behalf of the Saltwater community. It was an honour to remember those who have served and who are serving our country.

IB Accreditation

On Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th, Saltwater College will be visited by Di Fisk and Nicholas Palmer who are IB Team Leaders, leading the authorisation visit at our college. Di and Nicholas will be meeting with all stakeholders of the college by examining all documentation to gain an understanding of our school’s journey towards becoming an IB World School.

One of the main objectives of the visit is for Nick and Di to examine our evidence against the programme standards and practices. The standards are general principles that lie at the heart of being an IB World School, while practices are further definitions of the standards that include references to implementation. Requirements are more specific and refined measures of implementation and include programme-specific elements known as specifications. The standards and practices, requirements and programme specifications are necessary for the successful implementation of the relevant IB programme.

We are excited to welcome Di and Nick to our college and look forward to receiving the outcome of their findings.

ICT Parent Information Session

On November 24th and 6pm, there will be an ICT Parent Information Session being conducted at the school. The purpose of this session is to provide transparency and education around the 1:1 device program that the school offers, including student and parent expectations. The session will be particularly helpful to new members of the school; however, all parents are encouraged to attend. More details of this session will be provided closer to the date, and we look forward to seeing all those in attendance.

Christmas Carols

The Saltwater Christmas Carols will be conducted on Wednesday 14th of December. The evening will commence at 5:30pm. Families are welcome to bring along a picnic rug and camping chairs for their comfort throughout the event. There will also be light refreshments available, along with Christmas stalls. The evening will consist of carols performed by our students, who are currently fine-tuning their performances, where all children are given the opportunity to participate.

Dream Job Dress-up Day

A reminder that Monday 14th of November is ‘Dream Job Dress-up Day’ for our students. On this day, students are encouraged to wear clothes reflecting the occupation they would like to perform when they grow up. Students will be given the opportunity to engage further with this concept throughout the idea during classroom activities.

Communicating Absences

A reminder to all families to remember to communicate all reasons for student absences with the school. The preferred method for communication of absences is for parents to do this directly through the Xuno Family app, as it greatly reduces the administrative duties of our office staff and school leaders. However, if you don’t have your log-in credentials or don’t know how to access this platform, please contact the school for further support. You may also continue to email the school if this is your preferred method.

Kind Regards,

Saltwater Leadership Team
