Year Six News

Literacy

In this current unit students have been dedicated to creating blogs in order to express themselves and develop their persuasive writing. During the last two weeks we have been focussing on counterarguments and our students have been using the comment sections on each others blogs to develop their skills.

Numeracy

Students have finished up their investigations into the topic of "Chance" and have now embarked on a unit exploring geometric reasoning. Students have been investigating a range of topics in their fluid groups; from the properties of a variety of triangles, to how to measure and draw angles. One thing the students have all discovered is the value that is found in neat book work and those who have dedicated themselves to this endeavour are seeing the benefit pay dividends of clearly set out problems and workings enabling ease of comprehension.

Lions Club Art Competition

Our very own Nora Aziadou (6C) was selected as the winner of the City of Wyndham Lions Club international Peace Poster competition.  Nora’s artwork was exceptional as was her interpretation of peace; depicting how we can 'lead with compassion', which was the theme for this years competition. Students from Saltwater College competed against students from other schools in the City of Wyndham and this is the second year in a row that the winner of the competition has come from our school! Congratulations Nora, we are all so proud of you

Graduation

After two years of restrictions, we are delighted to finally be able to have a face to face graduation again. This is a momentous night of celebration where families can share in their child's achievements. By now all parents should have received a note and invitation to our graduation ceremony on the 8th of December. It is shaping up to be a very special night celebrating the culmination of our students' primary school journey.

End of Year Excursion

Parents should also have received a note for our end of year celebration excursion to Adventure park on the 15th of December. I know after working hard all year the students deserve a break and they will be looking forward to having a day relaxing in the sun and the water with their friends before some of them go their own seperate ways next year.

End of Year Concert

This year our Christmas Songs will be sung in our timetable groups with 6A, 6D and 6E singing 'Feliz Navidad' and 6B and 6C singing 'Like It's Christmas'. Students have all worked diligently to master their songs and been recorded in preparation for the performance. They are now putting their efforts into learning their dance steps, and we are sure they would love to show you (and practise at home too!) Carols will be held at the school on Wednesday 14th December, don't forget to mark it in your calendars.
