Year Three News

Week 5 and 6 Newsletter

Dear Year Three families,

It’s been another busy few weeks in Year Three with lots of incredible learning going on.

Reading

Over the past fortnight, students have been unpacking the main idea of various texts written by Mem Fox. The students focussed on analysing character traits, comparing her texts and writing styles, identifying important details and summarising story lines. They're now continuing to identify the topic of various texts and determine the main idea of our readings.

Writing

Over the past fortnight, students have been revisiting narratives through creative writing. We've explored the writing process and worked on planning out our ideas with care and genuine thought. They're now exploring informative texts and using common text structures to create engaging, interesting and informative texts based on their topic of choice.

Numeracy

Over the past fortnight, students continued consolidating their understanding of various areas of measurement of geometry; mass, volume and capacity and length. We explored formal units of measurement, used resources like rules, measuring cups and scales to estimate and measure objects, and used our knowledge of Place Value to convert units of measurement. The students will begin to focus on Number and Algebra, specifically multiplication and division.

Inquiry

As we wrap up our Fifth Unit of Inquiry, the students should celebrate the success they've had in all their learning. They were thrilled when exploring simple machines and using resources around them to create original designs and replicas of existing simple machines from our world. As we finalise this unit, the students will begin our final Unit of Inquiry, Sharing The Planet.
