Year Two News

Written by the Year Two Team

Hello Year Two Families,

We are officially halfway through Term Four, how time flies! Let’s see what the kids have been up to over the last few weeks:

Reading

In Reading, students delved deeper into the ‘Question-Answer Relationship’. It is a comprehension strategy that teaches students how to ask key questions about their reading and how to find the answers to their questions. Each day, students looked at a different strategy including ‘right there’, ‘think and search’, ‘author and you’ and ‘on my own’. Students also revisited Reader’s Theatre to improve on their reading skills and overall reading confidence.

Writing

In Writing, students looked at writing narratives from different character perspectives, trialling writing from the perspective of the narrator and of the main character. Students also delved into what a ‘circular plot’ looks like, starting with the end of the story and seeing how it can come full circle.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, students worked on worded problems to help practice for our test which we had on Thursday, as well as NAPLAN. Students also looked at missing values in equations, as well as the relationship between division and multiplication, which is very similar to the relationship between addition and subtraction. Students also completed our post-test on our knowledge for division.

Inquiry

In Inquiry, students analysed the Unit of Inquiry Six rubric to identify what they need to work on to improve their learning. Students started their research into their chosen celebration or commemoration that they don’t celebrate and that they wanted to learn more about. In the following weeks, students will be able to present their findings in any form they like. Some suggestions are a poster, an iMovie, a PowerPoint, a PicCollage, an animation, a physical replica etc.

Christmas Carols

Students have been working diligently on their Christmas Carols. It’s very exciting to see it all come together and see the students so involved in the process. Please ensure your child is continuing to practise at home, as it is a team effort.

Reminders

- Next Monday 14th of November, we have ‘Job Day’ where students get to dress up as what they want to be when they grow up. Some suggestions have been listed on the Year Two Schoolbox page. Please have a gold coin donation to provide.

- Next Thursday 17th of November, we have our 'Cultural Afternoon Tea’. Families have been asked to bring in a cultural plate to share with the Year Two cohort. Students are able to dress in their cultural dress if they choose. Please ensure you list each item used to create your cuisine on top of your creation. Please be wary of general allergies, eg: nuts, egg etc.

- Please continue to hand in weekly homework, which you can find on the Year Two Schoolbox page or via your individual classroom pages.

Kind Regards,

The Year Two Team.
