Music

Written by Michael Lapiña

This fortnight in Music has seen the commencement of all the classes recording their Christmas Carols in the "recording studio".  It's the one time in the year where we set up the microphones and headphones, connect them to the computer and the students get to record themselves singing as if they were in an actual recording studio.

Our Annual Carols event scheduled for 14 December 2022 is shaping up to be an exciting and talent-filled night.    We hope to see as many of you come to witness the great work our students and teachers have put into their Carols.

Our Year Six students have also started rehearsing their songs for their upcoming Graduation scheduled for 8 December 2022.  This year, the students will be singing two songs that they democractically selected.  The first of the songs will be sung by a general choir made up of students that will sing and "rap" the number.  The second song is a moving piece that will be sung by the Year Six Vocal Extensions students.  I wont give away too much at the moment, but I'm confident each of you will love what our students produce.

Our Year Seven Music Electives students have just finished their first Unit of Inquiry where they presented information about their respective Musical Period, highlighting a composer of that period, and exploring the influences of society that determined how the composer created their music.  Over the coming weeks, they will start to explore the foundational elements of Music, including notations and rhythms, major and minor keys, and the Circle of Fifths.
