3/4 News

This term was only short and my goodness it has flown. We have loved working with your children and enjoying their discoveries and learning. We can't wait to begin our next exciting unit of work (but no spoilers here as you'll have to wait until next term.) For now, let's celebrate the achievements of this term.

Expo Time

Thank you to all those that were able to come to our Expo on Tuesday, we understand some parents are working and can't make these events so we have made sure they have lots of photos and have posted them in Seesaw for you to see. Please take some time and check in with your child about what they learnt, what they loved doing and how they feel they went.

We included a copy of the assessment rubric in the Seesaw task and asked the children to self-assess. It's interesting to see their interpretation of themselves and their work!

We loved every bit of this unit and every aspect of their work and efforts.

Literacy, Inquiry and RE

What amazing work the children have done. As you can see our unit of work was across most areas of the curriculum: we had to read and understand information texts and had to locate the particular information we were searching for. We had to write our information to create our ‘info cube’. We used technology, searching and compiling information and images.

We also aligned our Religion topic with this unit and looked at how we need to care for these beautiful animals and the environments they need for survival. We even had to revisit our maths knowledge of 2D nets to create our 3D cubes for the information boxes. Let’s not forget the amazing models and dioramas they made at home for their Homework, what creativity and craftsmanship they displayed.

We hope you enjoyed quizzing the students with their question cards at the Expo and sharing in this showcase of their work as much as we did.

Thank you again for your time and efforts supporting the children in the background, especially the homework task to make models etc.

Maths

We have recently had a big focus on Multiplication and Division and hope that they continue practising their number facts occasionally over the holidays. Please remember that each process is the reverse of the other (3x4=12 and therefore 4x3=12 but also 12÷3=4 and 12÷4=3). Knowing times tables facts is very important in future years when they are covering maths processes; having a rapid response and understanding means one less thing to slow them down.

Division is also a part of sharing so you can practice this in real life by asking questions like “if there are 9 Tim Tams in the pack how many do we get each? (Mum gets 3, Dad gets 3, I get 3), that's 3 equal groups of 3. Or if we have to cut a cake so 10 people get equal shares, cut it in half then each half into 5ths. If I buy the multi-bag of 55 mini packs of chips, how many do each of the 4 children get? (who gets the leftovers?)

Kinder visits

What a fabulous time we have been having, the Kinder kids have remembered our faces from our previous visits and we are strengthening our relationships with them. Some are even finding out that the Kinder person is coming to our school next year and have been talking about how great it will be. We look forward to continuing this next term and having even more turns.

Finally, it is with great sadness we bid farewell to Mrs Fahey.  We  hope you have a lovely time with Hudlow (your clothing business) and your family but we will definitely miss you and your sense of fun and laughter, Friday just won't be the same. Thank you for all your work, especially your enthusiasm for great literature and for adding a little boogie to our day with your dance moves. You will always be in our hearts and minds.

Have a warm, safe holiday

We hope those travelling have a safe and uncomplicated journey, we hope those staying close to home have plenty of rest and recharging. Mostly, we just want you all to enjoy the time with no rushing or routines, have a beautiful time in whatever you are doing over the break.

Warmest regards, the 3/4 team,
