'May the beauty of the holidays warm your spirit'

Dear Parents and families,

I can't quite believe that we are at the end of another incredible term at Sacred Heart and the end of Semester 1. With so many positive changes in our school and the focus on Wellbeing it has been an absolute delight to meet with so many families and students over the past few weeks and celebrate their  amazing achievements. I love our chats at the gate and in the yard, your positive feedback is always welcome.

Although the students and parents and teachers are tired. there has still been a  continuous and strong focus on academics and a positive vibe throughout our school to make learning fun and engaging.

We thank you the parents for all your support throughout the term and for being partners on this journey of Primary school that we share together.

Some highlights this term have been the Nagle Kindergarten and Sacred Heart community connection which is  happening every week with a handful of  rotating Year 4 students going to Nagle and visiting the kinder students, many of whom are coming to Sacred Heart next year. The connection is very special and something Mrs Collins and I look forward to every fortnight!

Grandparents Day and the positive energy in our school from our more senior family members an special friends who enjoyed such a special morning together. We welcome you with open arms any time. Its been lovely to see some Grandparents as parent helpers in the classroom since then.

Prep Assembly & Writing

It was such a special moment seeing the preps perform 'The Very Hungry caterpillar' in their first assembly.  They spoke so well and were so well rehearsed. Thanks so much Miss Moloney. This is certainly memories  in the making. How special it was to have some prep students visit my office and celebrate their amazing writing. We are so proud of their achievements in prep and how they are learning so much and learning to write, it is so exciting! A true sense of excitement from the students and teachers alike! This is what being a teacher is all about!

Projects across the school to culminate our units of work-

1/2 cities & Science projects

As a culmination to their Science unit I know the 1/2's have done an exceptional job presenting their Science projects to the class. Thanks to the many parents who helped students at home to complete their posters and videos.

What a delight to see students planning their own learning by bringing boxes into school to create their own cities in 1/2 to link in with their Maths learning of multiplication and arrays. They look incredible!

The 3/4 Expo on animals and biomes was outstanding and so much work and research went into their posters, models, dioramas and information cubes. I learnt a lot about all the different environments, tundra, marine, rainforests, deserts and about all the incredible animals. What an engaging way to celebrate their learning. Thanks to the 3/4 teachers for all their hard work and to all the parents that  helped at home and to those that could visit the Expo and shared in  their learning.

The 5/6 We are Wolves novel study, food tasting and reflection was a wonderful way to end this literature study. It was  a pleasure to support Miss Healey in a food tasting morning with a selection of German food from the book 'We are Wolves' that they have studied this term. It was quite a culinary experience and well done to all the 5/6's for having a go and trying new food. The sauerkraut was the least favourite and the cherry tart and bread were the most favourite. Next term they will continue on and read the novel Rabbit, Soldier, Angel, Thief by the same author Katrina Nannestad.

FEAST OF SACRED HEART

On the last day of term we celebrate the Feast of Sacred Heart with  a school liturgy and dinner tonight. It was a true delight having  Daniel in Year 3 visit my office to share his work. He did an exceptional job with his writing about what the feast means and  why the feast is so important to him. We are so proud of your work Daniel.

Happy Feast day everyone!

It's not goodbye, its see you later

The staff and students farewelled the beautiful Mrs Biffin yesterday. We thank her for her work in 5/6 over the past few years and stepping in as an incredible Casual relief teacher and taking many classes for several weeks this year. You will truly be missed! Your class at St Mary's is very lucky to have you.

And finally we wish you all a very well deserved holiday break after a fantastic term of learning. May you all stay safe and well and we look forward to seeing you return ready and refreshed for another brilliant term.
