Principal's report

Mr Shaun McClare

I would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which Kalinda Primary school gathers, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. I would like to pay my respects to their elders past, present, and emerging.

Great start to Term 3

It has been a great start to Term 3. Students have returned after the break with a really positive mindset toward learning and I have been incredibly impressed by the engagement I have seen as I visit the classrooms. When I enter the classroom I love hearing that buzz of learning; with a teacher working closely with a handful of students at their point of need, and the rest of the class deeply engaged in their learning tasks.

At Kalinda, we have a strong focus and are excellent at ensuring our classrooms are a psychologically safe space. This means that students have trusting relationships with the staff and their peers, and they are comfortable answering questions, making mistakes, and striving to do their personal best.

It has also been wonderful for our Year 4 students to have the opportunity to attend the Phillip Island Camp. So many positive memories are created at camp, connections made between staff and students, and resilience and life skills are developed. After having a number of camps cancelled in the last few years, it was great to see the excited students get on the bus last Wednesday and then some very tired, but happy, students get off the bus on Friday.

The way our classes operate, the experiences on camp and the opportunities at a range of events (such as our upcoming Athletics carnival) all do a brilliant job at supporting growth for students' wellbeing and learning. We continue to be strategically guided by the PERMAH model in ensuring we build the tools students have to enhance their:

P - Positive Emotions

E - Engagement

R - Positive Relationships

M - Meaning

A - Accomplishments

H - Health

I would like to thank all of the staff and parents for supporting our students in having a great start to the term. Parent engagement with school enhances our students' engagement with learning and I really appreciate everything our school community does to enhance this connection.

2023 Enrolments

For any families in our community with younger siblings planning to come to begin at Kalinda in 2023, we would ask that you please submit their enrolment form as soon as possible. This allows us to begin planning for 2023.
