THS Sport Academy

Basketball Academy

Thursday 23rd June brought the first game for the Yr7-8 boys, Yr7-9 girls and Yr9 boys THS basketball academy teams.

Leading off, the Yr7-8 boys team faced Coburg High School. The boys simmered with a mixture of nerves and excitement, but after a few warmup run throughs they were ready for the jump. It was a tough tussle to start the game with the ball bouncing from end to end. A few well-timed shots from the boys saw THS pull away with the lead. A great combination of efforts in both defence and offence gave the team a solid win.

Next the Yr7-9 girls took to the court with a mixture of experienced players and some fresh faces for the team. We battled hard but were not as strong as the Coburg High girls team. Even though we went down in a hard fought, physical game, it was good to shake the nerves. Our focus now is to bounce back after the holidays.

Rounding the day off was a true nail-biter of a game. The Yr9 boys got out to an early lead, but Coburg came back with a strong second half to be up by ten with just over a minute left on the clock. The Yr9 boys showed some great hustle defensively and got the game back to four points with 3.2 seconds to go. A quick sideline play in the hopes for a comeback, saw us nail the three points, only to fall short by one point.

It was a really great effort by all players involved. A very rewarding way to finish a semester full of dedication to strength and conditioning sessions, as well as their regular team training.
