Visual Arts

This semester we have seen our first group of year 9 students participate in the new Textiles Design elective at Thornbury High School. A small room attached to 139 was transformed into a sewing haven, a new workshop - kitted out with 18 sewing machines and various other tools.

A small group of enthusiastic students selected the elective in the hope of learning about textiles, fashion and design. From garment construction to knitting and crochet, to using no traditional materials, students thrived in the workshop setting, following their own learning journey in the subject.

They were encouraged to select their own projects and develop their own approach to fulfilling the subject work requirements and outcomes.

The art and design department are so proud of the progress the students made and the way they engaged in a new subject. We continue to welcome students in this new space next semester and into the future!
