Athletics & Cross Country Carnivals
Darebin Division Athletics Carnival
The event was held on Friday May 27th at Meadowglen International Athletics Stadium. Our school had a squad of 53 athletes competing across the full range of track & field events. THS students were outstanding, winning 30 individual events and three 4x100 metre relay races.
27 students have qualified for the North Metro Region Athletics Carnival scheduled for Wednesday August 31st.
Cross Country
Darebin Division - The event was on Tuesday June 7th at Bundoora Park. A wet and cold day made for tough conditions but our students all competed admirably. Fatima K (year 7) got our school off to a great start, winning the first race of the day in the 12-13 girls age group.
North Metro Region - The event day was held on Wednesday June 15th back at Bundoora Park. Fatima K again produced a brilliant run, to win the 12-13 girls age group 3km event beating a field of 83 runners from the region. A fantastic achievement.
Jack R (year 12) ran very well to finish in 6th place in the 17-20 boys age group 5km event. Fatima and Jack have both progressed through to the State Cross Country Championships in the first week of term 3.
Interschool Sport
Term 2 is a major term of interschool sport across all year levels. Following a big start with senior sport, the year 7-10 age groups have been participating in four different team sport options: football, netball, soccer and badminton.
Year 9/10 Sport
Congratulations to the boys soccer team and also the girls and boys netball teams that all won their respective events and have progressed through to North Metro Region rounds in term 3.
Our intermediate girls and boys football teams both had games against Northcote HS. Northcote won both of the games, with both games played in a competitive spirit.
Year 8 Sport
Special mention to the year 8 girls netball team that also went through undefeated and have advanced to the NMR level.
A combined year 7 & 8 girls soccer team won the year 8 division event. It was a very exciting finish with a win against Preston HS in a penalty shootout to seal the victory.
The boys football team played very well to defeat Northcote HS in the first game of their event. THS led for a long period in the next game against Preston HS, but Preston finished strongly to win in a close result.
Year 7 Sport
Four different sport events are scheduled the final week of term 2. The squads have been training hard for each sport and are looking forward to their events.
