Interact Club

The McClelland College Interact Club was in full swing this term, with members completing a number of activities and fundraisers for a range of very worthy causes.  Following on from the World’s Greatest Shave event at the end of Term One (which raised nearly $2000), the Club initiated a number of projects in order to contribute to the wider community.

On Tuesday 30th May, Club President Stephanie Trott and Vice Presidents Dayna Corkery and Matilda Forsyth attended the weekly meeting of the Frankston North Rotary Club.  Each of our three leaders delivered a stirring speech outlining their hopes and aspirations for the Club, and what they intend on achieving by the end of the year.  Rotary members were absolutely thrilled with the presentations, celebrating our students for their maturity, passion and empathy for others.

The Club received their formal Certificate of Organisation in a ceremony held at the school on Tuesday 13th June.  In attendance were fifteen Rotary members from across Melbourne, as well as thirty of our Interact students.  McClelland Interact members received their personalised badges signalling their membership with the Club, while the school received a very impressive banner to be displayed outside our General Office.  Each of our five student leaders were also sworn in, and tasked with steering the Club forward for the remainder of 2023.

On Tuesday 20th June, the Club completed their first international project for the year, which was to raise money for an orphanage in Afghanistan.  Staff member Ms Lutfi has a long standing connection with the organisation, and cooked an amazing Afghan inspired feast which was available for staff and Senior School students to purchase.  Interact members assisted Ms Lutfi with both preparing and packaging the meals, which included a number of curries, rice and naan bread.  With over $2500 raised so far, the money raised will go a long way to providing the orphanage with food and clean water for the remainder of the year.

The next event that Interact will be hosting is a Sleep In at the School to raise money for State School’s Relief, an organisation that assists families in need with school uniforms and textbooks.  The event will take place on Friday 14th July, and is open to all students in Years 11 and 12 for a cost of $25.  Anyone interested in attending is asked to speak to Mr Hemsley, who can add you to the event.
