Karingal Primary School Japanese Cultural Day!

McClelland College students in years 9 and 10 Japanese engaged with the local community yesterday when they joined a cultural day at Karingal Primary School, assisting and helping the students from three local primary schools, including Karingal Heights, and Frankston East to play games and try out some Japanese-themed activities.

Activities on the day included some Japanese staples like origami and anime/manga drawing, some a bit more random like the Japan passport tour and a chopstick game, and other sporting activities such as a relay race and beanbag toss.

Students had a morning tea and a sushi lunch provided by Karingal Primary School, which was very much appreciated (thank you!), and got to make a lot of new friends in our local community.

Thanks to Martha McDonald, the local Japanese teacher, from the three primary schools, who did a mammoth job to organise literally hundreds of students across the suburb, the leadership at Karingal PS for supporting the event, our colleagues from the three primary schools for their enthusiasm and skills, the local parent helpers, and our amazing McClelland College students and staff for getting involved in this community event.

Japanese Themed Amazing Race

On the 23rd of May, our Japanese Team took a group of 9/10 students from their classes to the Melbourne CBD, to compete in a Japanese themed Amazing Race!

Students and their teachers raced around the city to culturally relevent sites and venues in a bid for their team to get first place!

Special thanks to all of the students for their enthusiasm and participation!

Thankyou to Menech sensei for organising and planning the excursion, and thankyou to Suzuki sensei for the scheduling of the event for our students to fit in with their upcoming CAT!

The excursion couldn't have run without the never ending enthusiasm and support of our assistant language teacher, Keiko sensei.
