Year 7 News

In week 6, The Summit Camp welcomed the McClelland College Year 7’s for their 3-day camps. All students were very excited and after having lunch and settling into their cabins and camp, there was a discussion around ‘The Five Keys’ being Have Fun, Play All In, Its’ OK To Make Mistakes, Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable and Don’t Go Home Thinking What If. Throughout every day on camp, all students had bought into at least one if not all of the five keys.

Each student activity group, known as ‘Tribes’, would also come up with tribe identities, the tribes were known as; The Legends, Moo Moo Moo’s, Tree Champions, Bein’ Chillin’, Enchiladas, Insert Name Here, Bombastic Silly Little Tree Cheese Frogs and Soggy Socks.

The camp was filled with an array of thrilling activities that pushed the student’s boundaries and fostered team spirit. The activities were, Snowy River Challenge, Giant Swing, Leap of Faith, Laser Tag, Abseiling, High Wire, Scavenger Hunt and the famous Tough Mudder Course. Well done everyone who participated in the challenges and really showed your all-in play for these challenges.

Students had the opportunity throughout the day to write up notes of encouragement and congratulations about their fellow peers. Many were so well thought out and deserving to those who received them. It feels good to acknowledge someone else but also feels great when someone acknowledges the effort you are putting into your camp experience. Every tribe did so well with the hauling of the Giant Swing rope to get your tribe mates to the highlight level they wanted to go to, even if some groups were smaller and struggling, others would come from nearby activities to lend a hand. The effort to climb the big tower for Abseil or the outside ladders to Leap of Faith was nothing short of impressive. Highwire and its tightrope walk were a big challenge and so many encouraging words were shared from the belay teams.

At the end of the camp, each tribe had the opportunity to vote for a Values winner from within their tribe who lived out the Five Keys of The Summit. Congratulations winners Twyla, Harry, Xander, Thomas, Haylee, Stella, Kosta and Kye for being voted the winners for your tribes. These students were rewarded with a drive in The Summit tank.

The camp was an exhilarating and unforgettable experience for both students and staff. Thank you once again to all the students and teachers who attended The Summit Camp.
