Only Four More Sleeps Until Work Experience Begins
Our Year 10 students will be heading out on 19 June for a week of Work Experience. This is an exciting and sometimes nervous time for our students. This is completely normal and can be helped by being prepared and organised for the placement.
Last week students were given a student pack that contained a copy of the arrangement form, a letter of tips and suggestions, the students signed OH&S certificates and a workbook with questions about various aspects of their workplace that they can ask in order to get the best out of the experience. Sometimes we don’t know what we don’t know! This is not compulsory to complete but highly advisable.
This week, the employer will also receive a pack that will contain a copy of the arrangement form, a list of Employer Guidelines and a student evaluation form to complete at the conclusion of the placement.
Year 10 staff will visit students in place of their year 10 classes. Staff will contact the employer to arrange a suitable time to visit, talk to the student and employer and will also complete an evaluation form on the suitability of the workplace. Staff love to come out to see students looking so grown up and confident in a new environment.
Students have been advised this week to do a ‘dummy run’ prior to starting, to ensure they know how to get there and how long travel will take, to avoid being late (never a good start).
They have also been asked to call their employer to remind them of when they are coming, confirm what time they are to start, and to ask what would be appropriate clothing to wear. Naturally we encourage professional or tradie attire depending on the industry but some places may have specific requirements. It is also important that students wear appropriate footwear as most will be on their feet all day – a glamorous hair and beauty salon may inspire gorgeous heels, but they won’t last long!
It is of utmost importance that should a student be unwell or not be able to attend work on any given day, THAT THE EMPLOYER AND THE SCHOOL BE INFORMED FIRST THING IN THE MORNING.
I will be on hand all week should the students, parents or employers need. Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time on 97908177 or at elena.flodstrom@nazareth.vic.edu.au with any questions or concerns you may have.
Students' safety and security is my utmost priority.
Please note that STUDENTS WHO DO NOT HAVE A COMPLETED WORK EXPERIENCE ARRANGEMENT FORM AND BOTH OH&S CERTIFICATES WILL BE REQUIRED TO REMAIN AT SCHOOL.
I wish all our Year 10 students a FABULOUS week !
