Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Guardians, and friends of Nazareth

As we approach the end of Semester 1, I take this opportunity to thank families for their support and patience with our building projects and the subsequent interruptions that this has caused.

I am well aware of the parking drop off and pick up frustrations. This will hopefully ease, however, with a more significant number of families attending the College, I urge families to drop their children off along Manning Drive or the neighbouring side streets.

I thank our families for their support with our Learning, Uniform and Mobile Phone policies and all other incidentals that sometimes distract students from their learning.

Currently, we are discussing the 2024 timetable and how we will be able to accommodate the new CEMEA 2022 award for teachers and educational staff.

This year, we have reduced our teaching time from 4 x 75 minute periods to 4 x 71 minute periods. We are currently exploring ways in which to increase teaching time. The alternatives being discussed are:

  • 4 x 75 minute periods per day;
  • 5 x 65 minute periods per day;
  • 5 x 60 minute periods per day.

The Day 2 early finish time may also be reduced and shared with the Day 7 timetable.

Overall we are committed to having a maximum of 300 minutes of teaching per day, and, ensuring that we retain our VCE and Vocational Major students at school to do supervised study. Currently, VCE and Vocational Major students have the liberty to do home study, but next year, most of their study periods will be timetabled at school in a fully staffed study hall. We believe that this will assist our students to maximise their opportunities and receive favourable results.

I invite families to contribute to the discussion via email at

principal@nazareth.vic.edu.au with your thoughts and contributions to the conversation about teaching times and supervised study periods.

In conclusion, have a wonderful term break. If you are fortunate enough to be going away, please enjoy, or enjoy the pleasures of not having to do the regular school chores that one needs to do during the school term.

Keep safe, and God bless

Mr Sam Cosentino
