Melton City Council

Y.E.P Excursion

The Y.E.P class attended an excursion at the Melton City Council along with student leaders from various other schools. The friendly youth workers danced with us at the beginning of the excursion as a chance to get to know each other, which made me feel more welcome. After we all introduced ourselves, we played an opinion game which helped me get to know other students. Once we were done with introduction activities, we discussed issues in our community such as healthcare, education, etc. Every table group addressed the problems associated with their assigned topic brought up into our community which made me recognise problems in Melton I had never thought of before. We played games after that. Each table group had to compete against each other in various games such as Minute to win it and trivia. We had a lunch break after exploring issues in Melton and playing engaging games. Personally, I thought that the food we had been offered was very delicious. After our lunch break, we went back to the issues we brainstormed in the morning, but this time we had to come with ideas that would help our community. This activity was quite interesting as we looked at problems from different perspectives. The excursion was engaging and raised awareness about what is currently happening in our community. – Trisha Patel, Year 9
