Principal's Report

May News
After and short spell of leave, it’s good to be back. I would like to express my sincere thanks to Marc de Ley and Nicky Walker for looking after the school in my recent absence. I’m sure on the surface it all looked calm, even though the feet were probably frantically pedaling under the surface!
Open Night
Thanks to all of those families who made the time to come up to the school for our Open Night for Education Week.
The theme for the night was “Communication Across the Ages” and there were many, many families wending their way from classroom to classroom, solving communication puzzles and busily filling in their passports. I would like to offer special thanks to the teachers who had all of their classrooms looking so spectacular and for staying back on the evening.
It was a wonderful display of all the fantastic things that go on in our school and I hope that parents enjoyed the opportunity.
Enrolments for 2017
We are well into our process for enrolments for 2017. Many, many expressions of interest have been received for Prep enrolment and we will spend some time in June sorting through those to confirm enrolments for Prep for next year.
As we have mentioned to parents, we have applied for an enrolment zone but this has yet to be approved. We will keep the community informed as this issue progresses.
I would encourage families who have Preps for 2017 to come to the school to fill in an expression of interest, even if you are an existing family.
Planting Project Completed
Stages 3,4 and 5 of our tree planting project were completed recently and the area is coming up really well. You will see three large plantings of shrubs and trees along the fence line of the school near the natural play space (dry creek bed). We just need the 850 students now to give the trees a chance to establish.
ANZAC Painting in the library
In the Library, you might notice a new painting on display. It was produced as part of the City of Casey ANZAC Fine Arts display and has been donated to the school for us to display for a year.
The panting depicts “hope” with a picture of planes flying from darkness into light over a field ambulance brigade in Palestine, representing the move from war to peace.
July 2nd Election
July 2nd has been confirmed as the date for Federal Election so our school will once again be required as a polling place. The PFA will be running a fundraising sausage sizzle on the day and they are looking for volunteers to assist on the day. If you are available, please contact the school office to offer your services. If not, you might at least pop in for a sausage and a drink whilst you cast your vote for our next Parliament.
After School Care
We are facing space problems with the After School Program with upwards of 90 children attending at times. We are seeking new spaces to provide for this many children with minimal disruption to the school operations and we will be applying to the registration of the new spaces soon.
Prep Information Night
We had many attendees at the Prep Information Night, indicating that, once again, we will have strong enrolment numbers for next year. We spoke to the parents about our proposed enrolment zone and about the new schools being built in the area.
