Year 10 Work Experience

We would like to thank the local businesses and organisations that supported our Year 10 students with a valuable week of work experience last week. Take a look at what some of our students got up to!

Student Reflections:

  • Work experience was great. I enjoyed working with other tradesmen on various job sites. I enjoyed being part of a team to get a job done. One thing I did was to help replace the architraves and skirting boards in a house and I learned a lot.
  • Brenton Urbaniak - John Polidano Builders (Axecreek).
  • I had a lot of fun discovering more about Bushmaster and Hawkei and learning that Hawkei can power a field hospital for the army. Most of my time was spent in the production area, observing the Hawkei manufacturing line and when I helped fit a winch onto a Bushmaster I was astounded at how big it was.
  • Ben Weir - Thales Australia (Bendigo).
  • I went to Echuca Moama physiotherapy. I spent my days mostly in the private rooms with a physiotherapist or patients, which was an interesting and engaging experience. I witnessed many different methods and ways of helping, fixing and limiting pain and issues that patients experienced. I also observed and took part in pilates, which taught me how the instructors helped patients strengthen and isolate different muscle groups to aid in recovery. Overall it was an educational and enjoyable experience. Hayley Holmes - Echuca Moama Physiotherapy.
  • The Moama Bowling Club provided many areas in their business for me to work in and get the experience of the business. I enjoyed working with the other staff who were passionate about their jobs, we went through the different areas including the cafe, bistro, functions, bowls, cellar, and the office jobs including finance and marketing.
  • Lauren Webster – Moama Bowling Club.
  • I completed my work experience at Echuca East Primary School. I spent each of the five days in a different year level. This enabled me to get a better perspective of the variety of teaching throughout the primary school grades.
  • Amy Smith – Echuca East Primary School.
  • Work experience at Foodmach was a highlight of year 10 and a week that I will remember for the rest of my life. I learnt so much from all the people as they were super helpful and extremely nice. The best part of the week was getting to play with the robot and moving it around like it was an attachment of my own body, and now I know what I want for Christmas. So if you’re interested in robotics or programming I definitely recommend going to Foodmach for work experience as I promise you will enjoy it. Ryan Bourke – Foodmach (Echuca)

Cheslea Hall and Lauren Webster did their work experience at Moama Bowling Club and made a fantastic platter of morning tea for Mr Martin to thank the teachers who visited students during the week. (see photos below)

Year 10 teachers visited students through the week. Cheryl Watson provided the following information and photos from when she visited Ryan at Foodmach:

Ryan worked Mechatronics, which is a mix of mechanical engineering, electronics, computer engineering, telecommunications engineering, systems engineering and control engineering. Foodmach is working on machinery and robots that can do the complete handling and packaging of orders without human intervention. I was shown videos of the robotic processes they had developed, and are currently working on. Ryan said he had really enjoyed his time there. He particularly enjoyed working in the factory and also did an online information session on Program Logic Control. (see photos below)

Get Happier

Our Year 4 and 5 students were very excited to get a visit from Ivan Honey last week from the Get Happier Project. The students had a great time asking Ivan all about his program and Doug Dragster and all his friends. The Year 5 students were especially excited to show Ivan the murals and artworks they have painted on the middle school garden beds! Take a look at their fabulous creations below!

The Thankful Jar Project

At this very busy time of year we are often very focused on giving and getting things done. Unfortunately, we can forget the other side of the coin: gratitude.

The Christmas season is a perfect time to remind us about the true value of being thankful. It is a time when we are reminded that the birth of a child (Jesus) represents a profound gift.

When we consider that He and each one of us began life a gift to our parents and families, that everything we are and have is a gift given to us by God, our response is one of thanks.

Over the new few weeks, our Primary School students are being encouraged to write a message of thankfulness to be placed in the Thankful Jar. These messages will be on display in our School. We also invite our Parents/Guardians and Visitors to participate.

This initiative might not change the world, but it will help us all to appreciate what we have, be thankful for the present moments and to be reminded that we are blessed.

Year 6 Celebration Dinner

The annual Year 6 Celebration Dinner was a success held at Rich River Golf Club on Thursday 30 November.  The student leaders compered the evening Jake Clancy, Charlie Granger, Brodie Jardine, Alysha Toohill, Oscar Burns, Scott Park, Ella Furness, Olivia Davy, Bella Jachim, Hetti Jones, Reve Torney, Sienna Quinlan, Marli McKenna and Genevieve McLindon.

The students enjoyed a 2 course meal with their parents and teachers during the night.  The students started the evening singing “The Best Days of my Life”.

There were three musical performances during the evening they were:

  • Sabine Mitchell on the piano she played ‘Phantom of the Keys’
  • Jake Clancy and  Charlie Granger played the guitar and sang ‘See you Again’ by  Wiz Kahlifa and Charlie Puth
  • Holy Steele sang ‘Start Again’ by Conrad Sewell

Many great photographs were taken during the night so there are great memories for our students and their families.  For the very first time we had Sharnee McCoy present The One and All Inclusion Award to Sienna Quinlan.

This award recognises the outstanding qualities of a Year 6 student that has shown a true understanding and acceptance of Inclusion in both their school community and in our local community.

They have been inclusive of all abilities of all ages and have been selfless in looking for ways to benefit others and not just themselves.

They show compassion and empathy to the needs of their peers by doing small things for others with an open heart.

There were many speeches during the evening beginning with Mr Rudge Head of Primary, Mr Davidson on behalf of the Year 6 teachers and a Year 6 reflection delivered by Charlie Granger and Sienna Quinlan.

The students were presented their Year 6 certificates and finished the evening with some enjoyable Scottish dancing.
