Athletics Carnival

On Tuesday 3 March, Scoresby Secondary College students descended on the Knox Athletics Track for the annual athletics carnival.  A mostly overcast, but warm day greeted students who brought a positive and vibrant atmosphere from the first track events, through to the final relay and novelty games of the day.  The stands were awash with red, blue, green and yellow as students cheered home their respective houses. Chisholm took out the day in one of the narrowest margins in the carnival’s history over a gallant Dunlop.

As is customary, Year 12 students brought the weird and wonderful with their fancy dress. The Wiggles competed throughout the day alongside their trusted friend Dorothy the Dinosaur, while aliens, clowns, penguins, pumpkins and polo players were amongst the other notable competitors seen Fosbury flopping, shotting, throwing and hop, skip a’ jumping!

The track events kicked of proceedings with Makaratih Sarem, Nadine Plevier, Jacob Compton, Imogen Brown, Tarren Murphy, Paige Corvell, Mason Rimmer, Eryl Diesta, Nathan Wooley, Kayli Chan, Kennedy Young and Shannon Toogood taking out the titles for the prestigious 100m dash in their respective age groups.

Competitors were ably assisted by their peers who volunteered as marshals, judges and recorders throughout the day. All volunteers are to be commended for their dedication, diligence and leadership on the day!

The teachers have again gone to ground after another dismal showing in the Staff versus Year 12 relay. A lot of hype surrounded the teachers  ‘strongest team yet’, however, they were quickly put to bed when the two assembled staff teams struggled to not only keep pace with a strong year 12 outfit, but keep their feet at all.  Assistant Principal, Chris Knight, the teachers’ one shining light, has refused to comment on a rumoured last-minute tilt at this year’s Olympic Games.
