Can you believe that we are already three quarters  through the year?  Term 3 is always a busy one with a lot of adventure and excitement - encapsulated by the recent School Concert.

Just around the corner is Spring and then Summer - yeah.   

We look forward to sporting grand finals, daylight savings, springtime flowers and glorious weather.

We hope all families have some well earned rest over the term break.

Victorian Primary Schools shine in NAPLAN

Victorian primary schools ranked the best in the country in seven out of the 10 NAPLAN measures, up from 2018 when we were best in the country on four of the 10 measures. If the ACT is excluded, then Victoria was the lead jurisdiction on eight out of 10 measures.

Our Year 5 students also achieved the best ever Year 5 NAPLAN results for numeracy for Victorian schools. In fact, our primary schools improved their own outstanding results from 2018 on 6 out of 10 measures.

Victorian teachers and school leaders should feel very proud of the results.

How are we going with achieving our Strategic Plan targets?

Goal 1 - To improve learning outcomes for all students in literacy.

  • Reading - We have increased FROM 64% TO 72% of Year 5 students assessed as making medium to high growth (4 year target is 75%).
  • Spelling - We have increased FROM 51% TO 76% of Year 5 students assessed as making medium to high growth (4 year target is 65%).
  • Writing - We have maintained 11% of Year 5 students assessed in the top two bands (4 year target is 15%); with a decrease of students in the bottom two bands and increase in the middle two bands.

Goal 2 - To improve learning outcomes for all students in numeracy.

  • Numeracy - We have increased FROM 66% TO 69% of Year 5 students assessed as making medium to high growth (4 year target is 75%).

Goal 3 - To improve student engagement in their learning.

  • Student voice and agency - We have increased FROM 63% to 66% (4 year target is 73%).
  • Self regulation and goal setting - We have increased FROM 78% to 86% (4 year target is 83%).

The two areas of Managing Bullying and Sense of connectedness have unfortunately shown a slight decline, which will be a major focal point Term 4, 2019 - Term 1, 2020.

We are well underway in relation to planning and preparations for 2020. 

Can you please complete the slip below and return to the class teacher indicating if:

  • you have a child/ren commencing Foundation in 2020
  • your child/children will be remaining at Cranbourne South Primary School
  • your child/children are leaving CSPS to enrol elsewhere
  • you are specifically looking at enrolling at Botanic Ridge PS Acacia (interim name).

Child Safe Standard 7: Empowering children

Promoting children’s participation can benefit their experience at school because it provides valuable information about their experience.

Most importantly, when children have opportunities to participate and feel their contributions are valued, they are more likely to speak up when harmed or feeling unsafe.

Staff farewell

With sadness, I inform the CSPS community that Tat Stanley's final day at CSPS is Friday 20th September.  Tat has been a significant presence within the Physical Vibe program, which will greatly missed.  We wish her much good fortune in her future adventures.  

Physical Vibe and Year 4a

After much consultation and consideration to ensure both the continuation of a quality Physical Vibe program for Term 4, as well as exemplary teaching and learning practices in the Year 4a classroom for the remainder of the year, the following arrangements have been arranged:

  • Mr Liam Gillick will be the Physical Vibe teacher for 3 days and Year 4a classroom teacher for 2 days*.
  • Ms Melissa Spicer will be the Year 4a teacher for 3 days*.
