Careers and Pathways

We’re continuing to keep our Year 12 students up to date with developments regarding the ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) and their entrance to university in 2021. VTAC (Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre), the organisation that calculates the ATAR and coordinates university applications (the preferences process), have setup a COVID-19 updates page where students can stay abreast of current circumstances: http://www.vtac.edu.au/update-covid-19.html

The good news is that VTAC are committed to supporting continuity of secondary education and progression to Higher Education for all VCE students, including calculation of the ATAR. They are working to normal timelines for Year 12 students to create their VTAC account and put in their preferences for university courses in 2021. At this stage, we don’t know when students will receive their ATAR, but VTAC are working with tertiary providers to ensure that Year 12 students will have a smooth transition into higher education in 2021. Many universities have indicated their offer process will consider additional criteria this year, such as year 11 results. So students and families can be assured that VTAC and tertiary providers are doing everything they can to work together to support the year 12 cohort of 2020.

Our Year 11 students would have visited the VCE and Careers Expo at the Caulfield Racecourse last Friday. This annual event is a fantastic resource for students and parents wanting to know more about how to succeed in the VCE and where to study beyond year 12. Due to the cancellation of the live event, the organisers have provided our school with access to recorded event seminars for a limited time. Students in years 10, 11 and 12 have received the login details for these.

In the absence of ‘in person’ university open days and information evenings, many virtual alternatives have been provided:

Use the links to find out more or sign-up. All of these offerings are free to students and parents at any year level.
