First XI Cricket

Blackfriars played Westminster in the final game of the season. It was a big opportunity for some younger players to come into the team and show their skills. There were five debutants – Michael Nong, Oscar Stevens, Amir Amiri, David Yem and Austin Mikajlo. Blackfriars lost the toss and were sent into bowl. The team had a strong start, taking early wickets. At drinks, Westminster were 6/101. The next few batting partnerships proved difficult to break as runs were being scored freely. Gray was a presence in the field taking four catches including a sharp one in the slips. Westminster were all bowled out for 201 – Singh 3/33, Cornish 3/34 and Yem 2/18. Blackfriars were off to a shaky start before Singh and Cornish steadied. Singh continued to score and was easily finding the boundary before being dismissed for 73. Blackfriars were all bowled out for 132.

First XI Cricket Blackfriars vs CBC Intercol Test Match

The annual First XI Cricket Blackfriars vs CBC Intercol Test Match was held on Monday 3, Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 of December at St Dom’s Oval. Day 1

Gray (33) and Flanagan (33) steadied and continued to score runs. At 5/93, Ross and Ralph were at the crease with the team under pressure. They continually found the boundary and rotated the strike. Ralph (66) scored a half century with Ross (49) just missing out. They combined for an outstanding 102 run 6th wicket partnership. Blackfriars were looking to make a big first innings total. Krenske (28) scored a run a ball adding valuable runs to the total. Blackfriars were all bowled out for 252 after 72.1 overs. CBC were to commence their first innings at the start of Day 2.

Criscitelli came on first change and bowled precisely before taking a wicket in his fifth over. The 5th wicket partnership was building before Ralph struck giving some much-needed confidence to the team. At lunch, CBC were 7/151. Ralph commenced first over after lunch. First three balls – dot, wicket, wicket and found himself on a hat-trick! It wasn’t long before the final wicket was taken by Ralph completing a five-wicket haul.
