Food Technology

What a wonderful start to 2022 in the Technology learning area! Students have been creative, curious and enthusiastic when participating in Food Technology, Textiles and Agriculture lessons.

As you may be aware last week was Healthy Lunchbox Week, an initiative of Nutrition Australia that aims to inspire Australian families to create healthy and enjoyable lunchboxes. The Primary Food Technology classes have been focussing on healthy choices, and have produced recipes from the Healthy Lunchbox Week website. I encourage all parents and caregivers to have a look at the Healthy Lunchbox Week website as what children eat during their day at school plays a crucial role in their learning and development. Please visit www.healthylunchboxweek.org.au for further information and nutritious and delectable lunchbox ideas.

Foundation and Grade 1 Food Technology

The Foundation and Grade One students have been learning about the importance of personal hygiene such as washing their hands before preparing food. Students made Watermelon and yoghurt Pops, and Ant’s on a Log. Students have been practicing their spreading and cutting skills using a butter knife, and presenting their food aesthetically. You will see in the photos how clever they all are! They were also learning how to clean up after making their food in class. Well done Foundation and Grade One students for your fabulous food lessons!

Grade 4/5/6 Food Technology

The Grade 4/5/6 students have been very enthusiastic and displayed a great attitude to learning in Food Technology over the first few weeks of term. After a recap on how to keep ourselves and our food safe in the kitchen, students were eager to participate in the production. Students made Fruit kebabs dipped in yoghurt and coconut, and Pita Crisps and vegetable crudités to serve with their dip. The students all took care when presenting their food and are to be congratulated on their amazing work!

Café Culture Food Technology - Elective

Café Culture students have been preparing a range of breakfast options that are available at Cafes. Students have made Acai Bowls, Fruit Smoothies and Eggs Benedict where they produced their very own Hollandaise sauce. After presenting their food, students have analysed their production and evaluated the sensory properties of the dishes they have made. Students are to be commended on their positive attitude and dedication to the Café Culture elective.

Grade 2/3 Textiles

Students have been busy designing their felt Teddy Bear where they will use a needle and thread to stitch their design. The grade 2/3 students are very excited about their bears, and they will look forward to sharing their progress throughout the term.

Primary Agriculture

This year, Primary students will be participating in Agriculture classes once per fortnight. Students in Grade 4/5/6 have been investigating what they will plant in the school wicking beds, and the Grade 2/3’s have been exploring food supply journeys of healthy foods from source to consumer.
