Principal Report

Welcome to the 2022 school year at Edenhope College, especially to the Year 7s and new Foundation students. We are very excited to share this next step in your educational journey with you. The last two years have presented many challenges for everyone and here at Edenhope College we all await with excitement what 2022 will deliver, albeit with some caution. We have learnt many things in 2020 and 2021 and shown great strength and resilience as a community. Our goal for 2022 is to attack every opportunity with enthusiasm and continue to grow as a school community.

This Year we welcome the re-emergence of our Faculty Heads and Sub-School Coordinators as we aim to improve collaboration amongst staff, provide the necessary structures to support teaching and learning, to provide a guaranteed and viable curriculum for all our students, as well as delivering a supportive platform to deliver wellbeing and engagement initiatives.

In 2022 we are emphasising the importance of the Home Group teacher to foster positive adult-student relationships, to communicate high and realistic expectations of student achievement and behaviour, to promote engagement with peers and mentors and communicate positive attitudes, values and social and emotional competencies. The Home Group teacher is also a great point of contact for parents as we aim to improve communication between home and school.

Again in 2022 The Middle Years Literacy and Numeracy Support (MYLNS) initiative and the Tutor Learning Initiative is being rolled out to help improve outcomes for students who are at risk of finishing school without the literacy or numeracy skills they need for future work, education and training and to support students whose learning has been disrupted as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The role of our Improvement Teachers is to work directly with students and to build the capability of other teachers. We are currently finalising the students who will be provided the opportunity to be engaged in the programs and if your child is selected, we will be sending a letter home for you to approve.

It has been great to work with our Year 7 cohort as they begin their secondary journey together. We have been focusing strongly on organisation and developing a sense of team, whilst emphasising the importance of kindness and respect.

We are really looking forward to the Year 7 BBQ at Henley Park on Wednesday February 23rd. It will be a great opportunity for parents and Edenhope College staff to meet and greet in an informal manner, helping to put faces to names. Evidence suggests that young people are more likely to be motivated to learn, to see school in a positive light and to enjoy productive relationships with teachers when they can see parents and teachers working together. We look forward to seeing you there!
