Religious Dimension

In this week's Gospel we are reminded that with Jesus beside us we can achieve great things, touch the lives of others and make an impact even in the most simple ways.
Who will you reach as your cast your nets this week?
Religious Education News
Welcome back! I would like to introduce myself as the new Deputy Principal and Religious Education Leader at St John's. It has been a wonderful start to the school year for our students and staff at St John’s Catholic Primary School and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for making me feel so welcome in such a short time. Being part of St John’s has already given me a strong sense of gratitude for entering into a community that is connected, ready to grow and celebrate our learning and spirituality. It has been a pleasure meeting our partners in the parish also, helping with setting up our Opening School Mass outdoors.
All staff and students contributed to the Mass, setting up, coordinating music, contributing to prayer, creating prayer cloths and giving thanks for being together again. To see so many parents attend just made the celebration even brighter than the sunshine that God graced us with on this day.
Father John Hill celebrated the Liturgy for us and was welcomed by everyone at St John’s, as Father Dispin is away. Father Dispin will be returning mid February.
A big thank you to our students who had the courage to read or carry our beautifully decorated prayer cloths which were on display for our community during the Mass. They did a wonderful job.
First Eucharist
An important reminder that our Year 4's will be celebrating their First Eucharist later this Term. Any other students from higher year levels who wish to celebrate this sacrament please let me know. See the dates below and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Important Dates for First Eucharist this term: (Year 4) |
Eucharist Information night for St John’s and St James Parents Thursday, 24 February at 7pm |
First Eucharist Commitment Mass Saturday, 26 February at 6pm or Sunday, 27 February at 9:45am ( Choose one mass only)
|
First Eucharist Celebration Mass Saturday, 2 April at 12pm |
This term the sacrament of Eucharist is being taught in class to assist with deepening our Year 4 students knowledge, faith and understanding. Whilst this is happening at school, it is encouraged that you attend weekend masses, the information night and share your experiences of Eucharist with your child who is completing the sacrament, as it will also assist with the preparation required.
Please note that there are two separate dates for the Commitment Mass and you only need to attend one of those sessions with your child. Something that has changed since last year is that Fr Dispin has requested that St John’s students celebrate their Eucharist together on the same day, Saturday 2 April. This will not be a combined celebration with St James in 2022.
