Mood Film 2021

Congratulations to the year 10 Drama class for demonstrating resilience and adaptability during remote learning. Below is a short film that demonstrates how MOOD can be created. Over the last several weeks in year 10 ‘remote learning’ drama we have been exploring the eight dramatic elements. We began by exploring MOOD. In the following clip you will see how the year 10 drama students were able to evoke a sense of mood, taking inspiration from the award winning children’s book, “Ziba Came On a Boat”, written by Liz Ofthouse and illustrated by Robert Ingpen. In the story Ziba, a refugee girl, is at sea on a boat pondering her fate. I hope you are as impressed as I was, by the ways students in this class adapted to alternative ways to create drama, and made creations that capture the mood created in the picture book. Please enjoy!

Instrumental Music Soirees

Congratulations to all our students who participated in the following soirees remotely on Microsoft Teams over the past two weeks:

  • Vocal Showcase (Monday 11th October)
  • Woodwind Soiree (Monday 25th October)
  • String Soiree (Tuesday 26th October)

Although we are disappointed that we cannot have live performances, it was wonderful to hear our students perform from the comfort of their homes. Well done to all our performers for doing the absolute best during such uncertain times! We especially congratulate the students who performed for the first time and hope that this experience allowed them to feel connected with like-minded students.

As one of our parents so eloquently said: “Just wanted to say a big thank you to the team for organising the soiree. Despite the need to be online I think it was great to see all the performances. The girls all did a great job and I hope those who did their first performance during this soiree will be inspired to follow up with a live performance once they are next able.” Bravo!

Thank you to our Instrumental Music staff for preparing our students and guiding them throughout remote learning: Ellyce Calder, Susan De Jong, Les Gyori, Tony Hicks and Daniel Tedford.  A special shout out to the Year 12s who took the time to record their performances amidst their VCE exam preparation- Clare Elliot (Voice), Elsa Symons (Voice), Hazel Calwell (Cello) and Kaede Kiriyama (Cello). We wish them all the very best in their exams and thank them for their contribution to the Performing Arts department throughout their time in MGC!

Please join us for two more virtual soirees to round off the year, and hopefully we will be able to perform in person again next year!

  • Thursday 4th November 6pm: Piano Soiree
  • Thursday 11th November 6:30pm: Guitar and Drums Soiree

Please download the attached document for links to the performances.
