YEAR 7 NEWS…

This term is short, and jam packed with many exciting opportunities for the Year 7 students to get involved in. Last week we celebrated and acknowledged mental health week. This was a week of lunch activities that included basketball with the Taipans, table tennis, corn toss, giant snakes and ladders, giant balloon drop and teacher vs. student games just to mention a few. It was a great opportunity for students to get involved in activities at lunch with their mates and take the time to check in with one another. It was wonderful to see so many students involved in the activities and look forward to mental health week again next year. It is important to remember that we take the time everyday to check in with our friends and make sure we are being supportive friends in listening and supporting one another.

Over the past few weeks many students have been recognised for Head of Year awards with the collection of merits in classroom teaching and in the playground. To receive a Merit a teacher will recognise good behaviour or class work in a student and award this verbally and record in our merit system. This then automatically sends an email to the student and parents. When a student has received four merits, they are acknowledged with a head of year certificate at the community pastoral assembly. To then receive a Principal certificate a student needs to have received four head of year certificates. This award is presented at our college assemblies. Over the course of your child’s education, they can continue to earn all levels of these certificates to eventually receive a college medallion at a whole school assembly. This is a prestigious award for consistent approach to learning and behaviour at St Mary’s. I look forward to seeing more students recognised for these awards over the coming years.

Upcoming events for Term 4 include:

  • Presentation Evening – Week 6 Tuesday November 9th
  • Graduation Mass – Week 7 Wednesday November 17th

God bless
