Curriculum Matters

Term 4 already in what has been a very interesting (unique and challenging) year! As we move closer to the culmination of another year of successes at SMCC, we gather to acknowledge the individual efforts of our students. Presentation evening will be held on Tuesday 9th November in the Nazareth Pavilion (6.30-9.00pm). These awards are a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the academic, sporting, performing arts and individual service achievements of our students; parents are encouraged to attend.

Year 6 into 7, 2022 - Orientation Day and Parent sessions

The Year 7, 2022 student Orientation Day will be held on Thursday 18th November –details will be provided to parents soon.  A short Information Session for parents will be held on Thursday evening. Please ensure you have completed all Enrolment Acceptance requirements prior to your child attending on this day.

Year 11 - Exam block and pathway eligibility

Year 11 exams occur in Week 3, Term 4 to align with the new QCE timelines.  Any absence is strongly discouraged by the school due to the significant impact it can have on student results due to missed assessment. An explained absence includes medical or family bereavement (documentary evidence must be provided); any other absence that results in missed assessment is at the student’s detriment.

Year 11 parents and guardians were sent a letter regarding ATAR and QCE eligibility requirements at the end of Term 3 (please request another copy if necessary).  As students complete their Unit 2 assessment, you are encouraged to carefully consider whether the current pathway remains appropriate. As with all information provided, the school encourages students and parents to meet with relevant personnel to discuss their individual pathway and gather information related to their needs.

Year 12 – External Assessments and end of year

“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they wereto success when they gave up.”   Thomas Edison

With that in mind, a reminder to all Year 12 students to keep on top of their studies and stay focussed until the end…you are very close, but you are not there yet! External Assessments run from Friday 22nd October through to Tuesday 16th November for all General subjects.  It is important that students are prepared mentally and physically for these exams; this includes being on time and with the correct equipment. Please carefully read all relevant information that is presented to you over this time. Information concerning future pathways such as QCAA contact details need to be checked thoroughly as any errors that you discover after Certificates are released are your concern and the school is unable to intervene. QTAC offers will be provided and it is important that you deal with them with the urgency they require – it would be a shame to miss out due to poor time management at this stage.

All students need to ensure that they have their LUI number and password stored in a secure place so that they can access results on the day of their release. Results will be released online in your myQCE student portal on Friday 17th December.

As the final year of formal schooling wraps up for the Year 12 cohort, we look forward to farewelling them all, as a community, on Wednesday 17th November, 9:00am, with the Graduation Mass and our traditional Guard of Honour.

Thanks
