Cairns Hockey Gala Day

The Cairns Hockey Gala Day was enjoyed by many Year 7, 8 & 9 students on Thursday 9th September. The six round games were short and sharp. Our girls team were awarded the overall champions for the day with the boys placing second due to a freakish goal being scored against them in the final two minutes. Our teams were fortunate to be coached by Peter Swaine and Rhylee Pendridge, with tactical guidance on the day provided by Nigel Blandford. The behaviour of our students, on and off the field were a credit to their parents, hockey coaches and our school.

Water Polo Inter School Gala Day

Congratulations to our four Year 9 & 10 water polo teams who participated in the Inter School Gala Day at TAS Thursday 14th October.

The teams may have lacked experience but their St Mary’s Spirit, teamwork and determination shone through. All players improved their skills and confidence noticeably as the day progressed which ended in St Mary’s having a boys and girls team in the Gold Medal match and a boys and girls team in the Bronze Medal match.

Our smaller team sizes compared to our competitors was a factor in the last games of the day. Despite losing to TAS in all four finals, it was certainly pleasing to be with a group of students who were enthusiastic, willing to be involved and fun to coach.
