Welcome Back

It was wonderful to have our Year 7 students back onsite today. I know that many of them have missed their friends and teachers and they have also been missed.  We now eagerly await the return of our Year 8 and Year 9 students. The students have endured quite a trying time and once back at school our focus will be on reconnection and wellbeing. Welcome back to all the Dunhelen students.

Uniform

Students should be in summer uniform; however, considering the circumstances, if your child’s summer uniform is too small, they are permitted to wear their winter uniform. If this is the case, please provide a note to your child’s homeroom teacher. Dunhelen students are also required to wear masks. Please ensure your child has a mask with them every day.  It may be necessary to provide them with a pack of 5 to keep in their bag, just in case.

Student Wellbeing

If your child is feeling overwhelmed with work and/or returning to school, please contact their homeroom teacher to let them know. This will give us the opportunity to work with your child and try and appease their concerns.

You will have received an email about upcoming information sessions, ‘Tuning in to Teens’. This free program is aimed at parents with students in Years 6 to 9. I have attached the flyer if you are interested. Please note that this is open to any parents, not just Aitken College, so feel free to share with others. The sessions are run by the Australian Catholic University.

Mid-Term Break

Melbourne Cup weekend is approaching. A reminder that Monday 1 November and Tuesday 2 November are student free days.

Homeroom Allocations 2022

As we near the end of year, the Assistant Heads of School and I will soon be organising home groups for 2022. There are so many variables considered when making up a homeroom. Homerooms are not made up solely on the basis of friendships, and sometimes this, for a variety of reasons, cannot happen. It is important to note that requests cannot be accommodated and the making up of homerooms is done with the knowledge that we and the homeroom teachers have of the students. We appreciate your support with this.

Looking forward to having all of Dunhelen back onsite next week!
